Heading to Brown County Indiana over Thanksgiving holiday weekend once again. Anybody know how much rain there's been lately? Are trails muddy? How is the water level in the creeks?

Friends of mine went there last month, and even if they had rain in the last month, given the drought conditions they've had all summer, I'm sure there wasn't enought to muck up the trails. The creek beds were pretty dry too, so I would think you shouldn't have much to worry about. I rode there in the Spring a few years ago after some pretty hefty storms went through, and most trails were still very rideable. Happy Trails!

Hope you have reservations...per the internet the horseman's campground is full.  I was there in October and everything was DRY...no water in the creek, etc.

I was there last month, it always rains when I go to Indiana! However, they think they are in a drought so to them it's dry. I live in IL and thought things were green there compared to my parts where everything is yellow or brown! Even though it rained a lot while I was there, it soaked in pretty good and the trials were not muddy. I did not see water in creeks though, except for a trickle.

I think we are in a drought when the barn well and the house well has been dry since mid August!!  There is not any water in the creeks in the park.  We are to have showers this next week on Wed and Thurs I think.  The trails are not muddy. We had rain last week and didn't even get a inch total and I live just past the camp.

And as someone else stated, this year they are taking reservations all winter at Brown Co. so don't expect to come down Thanksgiving weekend and get an electric site.  But there are primative sites left.

Thanks for the info InIndiana.  Appreciate that.  I assume that means there isn't water in the creek that runs through the camp too?  We had thought of bringing a pump to get water out of the creek up the banks to the campite for the horses.

I don't think I've ever seen enough water in that creek that you could pump it!!!lol Unless its right after a flood! Even then it goes down quick. There might be a deep spot in there somewhere but I think it will soak in. We've been pretty dry around here. Although we have had rain, it has been REAL scattered and like I said our well's are dry. We have been hauling water.
If you have a tank and a hose, bring it. There is a no freeze faucet down by the day camp area that has water in. Thats what most people do ,then they can just run it out into their buckets. The water is off in camp but their is water in the lines to supply that.
Good thing you have reservations, I went through camp today and they had put a sing up that read " All electric sites reservered 21-25". I know that some are not going to come in till Thurs, or Fri., but they did that to keep people from coming in on them.
I've looked at the forecast for next week and its not suppose to get lower than the low 30's at night. Just enough to put a little skim of ice on the water, and 50's during the day. With a few chances for rain....boo!
Where are you camping? I'm on 46. I go with the Indiana Trail Riders for our clean up weekend.
Maybe we can say hey...

We have reservations in primitive, but we are fully contained and have a generator....but thinking about cancelling...the forcast changed...highs of 38 all weekend now an lows in the 20's.  Just cannot decide what we are going to do.

We were just there 2 weeks ago...hardly any water in the creeks, been that way all year with the drought. Trials are in good shape....we are supposed to be on 187 in primitive...camping with some friends...but just cannot decide if we are going!!!

We have a huge group but my campsite should be 21 or 23. My sister made the reservations. My confirmation says 23, but I think she also told me she messed up the two. We drive a red GMC crew cab dually. I'd love to meet you.
