I just purchased my first LQ horse trailer.  It's an 8 1/2' LQ with AC/furnace, convection, stove, and 6 cu fridge w/ freezer.  I have a question about powering all of that:

I think I need around a 3-4K watt generator.  The trailer is not prewired, so I will get a portable one and possibly mount it on the trailer roof.  My question is though about brands.  What does everyone have?  Which are good and which are the ones to stay away from?  My price range is around $2K.

Honda inverter 3000is. Don't put it on the roof--- you can use it anywhere on the farm or home in case of emergency..I have used ours to power fridge when power out in summer . I have used it to power elecrtic saw to cut and repair board fencing while it sat in bed of truck. Just don't limit yourself to using it just in your trailer. I love the gas economy mode and the low level output even when on full load. I always turned off air conditioning when using microwave though. Best of Luck!

Like the above post, I keep mine in the bed of the truck and use it for other chores besides the trailer.

I have the Yamaha EF2400is.  Which is only 70lbs.  So I can still lift it by myself in and out of the truck bed. But it's only 2400 watts. So I can not run my A/C and Microwave or other major appliances at the same time. Not a big deal as I rarely use A/C

The Honda 3000 is a great generator,It weighs 130 lbs. So it;s not real mobile unless to have a second person to help.

I run a Yamaha inverter, EF3000iseB.   http://www.wisesales.com/YamahaEF3000iSEB.html I keep it in the bed of the truck. It's wound with copper and it weighs 147.4 lbs. dry. Never had a minutes trouble from it!!!

Some folks are buying these....  http://championpowerequipment.com/CSA40020.php

Tractor Supply sells them..... http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay_10551_10001_54036_______14151|14170|54036?listingPage=true

They are not quite, as quiet, as the Honda and Yamaha inverter gen sets, but they are cheaper. I could buy six of them for what I paid for my Yamaha four years ago.

I have the Honda 3000 and it runs everything in my trailer fine. You can't run the ac and microwave at the same time but I usually have the ac and I also have electric water heater and usually the coffee pot going..It weighs 147lbs. It will fit in the rear tack. But it does take 2 peeps to lift it. The newer ones have wheel kits on them...

Happy n Pround owner of Honda 3000 Love it had it 4 years.Keep it locked up in rear tack area.Move/check to make sure NOTHINGS close or touching while running and till cools down. Its safe in rear tack(locked not in weather and isn't seen as something to steal-outasight).Runs everything great and helps charge batteries if on long weekend/holiday etc.Make sure you buy generator thats QUIET?Park approved so not to piss of campers around you and some generators aren't quiet as Honda or yellow ones(can't think of name/brand).

The yellow ones are Kipor, Chinese, and aren't quite as quiet as the Honda or Yamaha but sell around 1200 or so.  We've had good luck with them.

I have a Honda 3000 that I usually keep in the bed of my pickup. It weights about 150 lbs, so it's a two man job to put it in the bed. But it's enought to power everything including the a/c. It's very quiet. You can have a conversation right next to it.

I also have an older Onan 4,000 W that came out of an RV. It does everything also. But, weighs about 275 lbs. It is almost as quiet as the Honda. I currently have the Onan for sale - $400.

Agree with Retento. Luv my Yamaha EF3000iseB. the B is for Boost to start the bigger, over 13,500 BTU AC. very quiet and has economy setting. will run all night on tank, and has fuel gauge. got mine out yesterday first time since last fall. started up second time I turned the key. comes with wheels, no kit to buy. comes with 12V charging cables. cute little blue unit with handles on both ends and a wheel brake. check it out. word to the wise....tie, clip or velcro the key to the handle!

Happy Trails

I also have the Yamaha EF3000 and have had no trouble. Its heavy 148 lbs, about the same as the Honda 3000. but it's on wheels and I stash it in my rear tack room on trips.

I think I would go with the Honda or the Yamaha .Both good generators, quiet and relaible.

The Honda is 58db at rated load... http://www.wisesales.com/EU3000.html

And the Yamaha is 57db at rated load...  http://www.wisesales.com/YamahaEF3000iSEB.html

The Champion runs about 68db which is more than twice as loud as the Honda or Yamaha...
