I know of 5 different trailriding friends that have had up to 3 tires blowout on their trailer in the same day. These trailers were all under a year old with low miles-these tires were all made in China. I just bought an Exiss, are these tires SAFE??? The other trailers were Sundowner and Bloomer, not cheap trailers. My tires are 235/85 R16 radial Trail High-Run, also made in China. Why are these reputable trailer companies putting my life and my horses at risk with these undependable tires? It is going to cost me over $1,000.00 to insure my safety by replacing these tires, after purchasing a $60,000.00 trailer one year ago. Has anyone else been having these problems with the factory tires on their trailer? Susan

You ask... "Are these tires safe?" I don't think so. They are not built to U.S. standards. The trailer companies can buy a shipping container load of these tires and rims already mounted for what the rims alone would normally cost. They'll save at leat $100.00 to $200.00 per wheel if not more.
It's all about the trailer mfg.'s saving some money. They could have used name brand tires but it would have to been included in the cost of the trailer, like you said, another $1000.00. That's enough to loose a sale. I couldn't have bought the trailer with the cheap "Chinese tires". It would have to been up graded, or NO SALE! I could be wrong, but I think all Bloomers come standard with Michelin. I agree with Gard and there's plenty of threads to back it up, get rid of the China junk and get a set of Goodyears 614RST. You won't regret it. Keep them aired up to rated pressure.

Alot of the trailer manufactures put cheap chinese tires on the trailers. I have had bad luck with trailswest the same way. I went through five different sets of tires and trailwest never would make it right. I finally, through the forum, was able to problem solve and I paid for the fix. I know several of my fellow competitors, that we travel with, with other brands of trailers have had the same experience. I am afraid you will be financially on your own to fix it right.

I have two friends with Four Stars several years ago and their trailers both starting blowing tires. Both had all of the tires replaced. Great tires for your rig - PRICELESS!!!!!

Are the Goodyear 614's American made? I see that both of you recommended the 614 ST's, but one tire was an RST and the other one a GST. What is the difference?

Thanks retento. My bigger trailer has some good LT's that came on it, but my little trailer came with the Carlisle's. It's a smaller trailer and I've been OK so far, but I didn't want to push my luck and the thought of stepping up to a set of LT's for it was sort of gagging me.

Ironically, there are some Chinese tires out there called Maxuus, I think, that are very good according to our tire guy here who's been in the business for 30+ years. Our shop does some specialty fabrication units for utility and drilling companies and they always specify a seriously heavy duty tire. We rely on the opinion of our tire supplier and we've never had any problems with these. I agree with the general comments regarding some really cheap, inferior, junk out there. But, I don't think there are hardly any bearings made in the US any longer. If you listen to a Chinese bearing, it's not near as smooth and free as the good old ones made in the USA. Unfortunately, a sign of the times.

I would say that most all of the trailer manufacturers have at one time got caught up in the "Chinese tire syndrome". We carry several brands of trailers, from Bison to Sundowner and Elite; and at one time or the other they tried tires made in China. But, Retento hit it on the head, when he said the manufacturer was trying to stay competitive by putting lower dollar tires on their trailers. Most of them learned pretty quick that Chinese made tires just don't cut it when it comes to "trouble free trailering"!! A lot of companies now only offer Good Years or Michelins on their larger trailers.
