Subject: Ideas for Saddle Pad Rack

Our Exiss trailer doesn't really have anywhere to hang saddle pads. :( Normally I throw them over the saddle racks in the back, but that is becoming a pain when we have 4 saddles in there. Any ideas on how to put a saddle pad rack in a Exiss XT414, 8' wide?

I was thinking one of those ones that go infront of the saddle rack and fold out when the door is open...but I don't think there is enough clearance between the rack and the door, by the time I hang my bridle and halter cases on the door.

My husband made a hanging blanket rack. IT is made out of PVC pipe and rope it can hold I think 4 blanket but you can make to hold how many blankets you want and you cut the PVC to the longest length of your longest blanket. We hang it in the empty stall that we don't use in our trailer. You can make so that you can have as much space inbetween the bars(just remeber not to long so it is off the floor of the traler, and the best part you can move it around. The PVC pipe is 2" or3" and just some nylon rope. We used white but if you want to dress up, use color nylon rope. The wider pipe let the air around pad better. Oh yea you will need a drill to drill hole in PVC pipe to run the rope through. Maybe I get him to post on here tomorrow on how it did it. We both have to drive bus tonite.

I had a silver star dressing room trailer once and made one that was mounted on rear door.  It worked well.  I had some aluminum conduit here at the shop and it comes with a female coupler on one end.  I took a piece of 2.5" aluminum angle about 5' long and had the female couplers welded on the angle.  Then cut it oh 30" or so beveled the ends on grinder, brushed them smooth and screwed the other end into the newly welded female coupler.  Drilled some holes into the angle and then screwed it too the trailer door.  Had the pipe so it cost me about 10 bucks to have it welded I guess.  I have a dressing room trailer now without blanket bars and I hate it.  I cant' do the above on this trailer (elite mustang) because the mustang has narrow doors.  The rear tack is not wide enough for the blankets to be hauled on the rear door.  Honestly very few trailers are made to haul roping saddles and pads.  Really preturbs me to no end.  I have an 8' wide elite LQ trailer with 50/50 rear doors that will not hold a roping saddle(s) and all the pads really well.  The door is kinda shoved closed.  The silver star would not hold the roping saddles at all and shut without the pads on the door.  Hence i no longer have it.

I bet $1000 you can mount the bar like I made to an exiss that is 8' wide.  I wish my small trailer was 8 wide then I could.  The one I made beat buying one from coolhorse (blanket bars) that are $200.

Thanks! We used to have one like this in our 5 horse Exiss, but it broke after using it for so many years. I may make another one, but I was looking for something a little heavy dutier. :)

I feel your pain about the rope saddles and pads. We team rope and I also show the all-around. Actually, we just had to have our saddle rack repaired since we broke it throwing the heavy saddles up on it.

Thanks for the idea! I get what your saying and I'm off to ask my dad if this is something he thinks will work on our trailer. :) We have a fabricating shop, so I bet we have something around here that would work, to make it.

I'm having the same problem with our 2007 Elite. I talked to Kevin with Bloomer Trailers in Salado, Tx yesterday and he said that as long as you can fit your longest pad "longways" in the door frame of your reartack, they can make a swing out blanket bar for your trailer.

There is a service shop next to the dealer in Salado and they will make them custom for your trailer (all trailers doorways are different sizes so they have to measure it). If you are out of state, I am sure they could take measurements over the phone and make one for you. If it is too long, it can't be too hard to cut the bars down a little with a simple chop saw or something similar.

One of mine is a 2007 Elite as well. 8 wide with 50/50 rear doors.  I could not convince elite to mount the swing out blanket bars on the hinged side of the rear tack door.  My rear tack door swings towards the curb side of the trailer but blanket bars swing to street side.  Kind of dumb in my opinion.  Everyone else swings same manner as the door.  Elites are really built good but the design they use will not allow (with standard size rear tack, 4' on long side) the roping saddles and blanket bars to work well with each other.  There doors are probably more narrow than any other manufactures on my trailer design.  The outside framing is probably at least 6", so in a 8 wide trailer I am loosing 12" or so to framing.  Dont get me wrong its well built but its a pain with smaller doors tack and loading.

The Elite mustang I have has really narrow doors.  The 32" pads I use will not fit across the door so I cannot use a blanket bar of any type.  PAIN in the rear.  We use it during the week the LQ trailer on weekends.  This is a 06 model.

The new Bloomers are really wide in the rear, but the framing is not as wide around the rear so that is where the difference comes into play.  We have pulled only Elite LQ trailers.  All without fail.  However, I have like some designs that other manufactures have out so next trailer probably be shopping little more on design between them, platinum, and bloomer.

Mount a long bar above the butt side windows. This will not get in the way and you'll have 14-18 feet to hang whatever you want there.

I also have an '06 Elite that didn't have the swing out blanket bars in the rear tack. I bought the trailer at Leonards and they fabricated a swing out blanket rack that will hold 8 blankets. They also did that for me on my first Elite.

The long but bar will not work for me either.  its hot here in south ga even now its warm.  It was 70 last night when we left for rodeo in the mustang for one night show.  I cannot block the butt windows i gotta have the flow.

The swing out deals will work for bigger trailers, but the mustangs they will not work.  The entire rear tack is only about 30" wide.  The pads are 32.  The mustangs I beleive are only about 6'10" wide.  Something like that without looking.

The swing outs on the LQ trailer work fine (6 bars) but the rear door is hard to close with two or three roping saddles, 5 pads, and 4 navajos.  The bulk or thickness of the pads/blankets hit the saddles on the front so you have to shove the door closed when its very full.  Not that big of deal but for a $45k shell you would think they would have it figured out.  I have seen alot of others that dont work either, I am not bashing them but I think there are some better designs.

Maybe the orignal poster got some ideas about where to mount a blanket bar.

I have a swing out rack for three blankets that fits over the door of my rear tack but had a problem with moisture from the pads mildew-ing the saddles in the heat of summer.  Had the dealer where I bought my trailer go to the front wall in the horse compartment and weld a bar across the top up high where I can hang three blankets.  This is across the front wall which is the back side of the living quarters wall.  Works great!!!!  Up high enough to where when you put a horse there, it doesnt interfere.  I am vertically challenged so I need to use a step stool but hubby at 5'6" can reach easy enough.  This also keeps all the rest of my tack clean from the horse hair/dust that falls out of the pads when they dry.

Thanks for all the ideas!

I guess I really need to check the clearance in between the door + bridle cases and saddle rack to see if a door one would work.

I found a great picture of the blanket rack on Coolhorse and we could make one of those very easily.

I like the idea of one in the first stall but we already have hooks mounted up there that we use quite a bit.

I also like the idea of one on the back door--but in Exiss' we have hooks on the door and it wouldn't work once we hang bridles, etc. there.

One behind the horses over the butt windows is out of the question--there is not enough clearance above the windows to hang pads and still get the ventilation from the windows.

I was quite possibly thinking something next to our saddle rack in the back, since there is a lot of space between it and the wall, but I guess i'll have to see if there is still enough room once I put my show saddle in it's case there.
