Have a new Platinum 16 LQ trailer 32 floor length trailer.  Considering 4500 GM.  I dont think I can swing the International 2L truck that I want.  Its about 85k.  I currently have a 35oo GM.  Its loaded but pulls fine.

I've been very happy with mine though they have been known to have some issues. You will probably want to chip it for better performance unless you stay on flat ground. I leave mine on the lowest setting 90% of the time. My truck and trailer together weight in at just under 18K and I"m not pulling as big a load as many, but I feel I"ve got more than enough power. The heavier truck is great for stability and braking, be sure you get an exhaust brake option. There is no comparison to pulling with a dually once you've driven one of these. But, search this forum and check out www.thedieselplace.com for more opinions. I kind of fell into one of these trucks and so far have been very satisifed with mine. However, I"m not sure I'd buy another one after reading what kinds of problems others have had with them.

We have a 16' KQ 32' on the floor aluminum trailer bought new 10/05, we then bought a 2006 F-350 diesel dually and pull easily with a full load. Our weight is around 23,000 lbs. total. What on earth would we do with a small semi truck when not pulling??? ( we would park 65K-140K in the barn most of the time) That is what you must consider when buying a new truck.... good luck.

That is my thoughts on a very high dollar truck exactly Jane. I know they would pull good but geez...man the cost is unreal. I wish ford did not have the problems they have I like the size of the 450/550 better than the 4500. All of them cost way way too much.

I currenty have a 3500 chevy 2005 model and I really dont like it.  Its ok.  I also have a 2500 chevy 2007 model and its night and day difference between it and the 3500.  It feels great and drives great.  Makes the 3500 seem like a dog.

Weigh your trailer, then you can decide what size truck you need to pull it safely. You'll have to remember to factor in the horses and extra gear if you weigh it unloaded.

As advised, weigh the potential load. Then, get the truck. A32' LQ 3-4 horse trailer pulled by a 1 T Dodge or Ford will result in a GVCW of around 23,000-24,000 lbs. A 1T Should handle that fine. With the $$ you save vs. one of those monsters you can trick out the 1T a lot.

My 2 cents worth - I also have a 2005 Chevy 3500 diesel dually - but I had to add air bags and I also have the Edge chip/monitor - our trailer is 42' - 3 horse - and the air bags make all the difference - I do think that I really need a bigger truck - but I had the truck for a year before we got this particular trailer - really feel that it needs a small semi - like the Freightliner ML60 - (I think that's the one) - but even used they are mucho dinero!
