we're looking for some recommendations on places to go for a month in the winter that have a nice campground with good trails. probably thinking southwest, but will consider other places as well. any suggestions would be great.

We like Cedar Lake in Heavener, OK. But I don't think you can stay longer than 2 weeks. But if you move over to Bar Fifty Ranch in Bismarck, AR you can complete your time and see different territory. And these two places are not that far from each other. Have fun

There are several horse camps located in Eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas. Some with better riding than others some campgrounds are better than others but all in all you would not be disappointed. We live in the middle of it all and sometimes we take it for granted.

In Arkansas an Oklahoma as have already been Mentioned you have Ceder Lake and Bar 50; You also have Idlenook at Y-City Ar, Lonseome D all in the same general area. in the northern part of the state you have Devils Den, The Buffalo River at several different places, Caney Creek Horse Camp and Shelton's Big Flat and Falling Waters in North Central Arkansas. Winter temps will be in the 30's in the mornings and into the mid 40's daytime.

We left on a Jan day in 2005 when the temp was 13* headed for Apache Junction, AZ. We spent 3 weeks riding there. I only missed one day of riding because I had to do laundry and pick Hubby up from the airport. I loved the camping and the riding there. Friends and I rode right out of camp and also across the hiway behind Goldfield Mine. It was wonderful! The camp owners were so friendly, and we still keep in touch with them in hopes of a return visit.
Notice what I'm wearing in one of the pics~sleeveless blouse. The weather was almost perfect each day!
