Ok I bought a plug at the dealership so I can plug my truck in during these low temps.  I got home and there is no instruction manual and my hubby is overseas.  Help!  I have a 2004 F250 super duty  4x4 diesel.  How do I install the darn thing???

I'm not sure what type of plug you purchased for the heater. On my Ford, accessable on the left side (driver's), bottom of the grill, is a male, factory installed electrical plug and short pig tail. To use it, I simply plug it into the female end of an extension cord and it starts working. I didn't need to purchase anything further from Ford for this purpose.

Since I've switched to synthetic oils, I haven't needed to use the heater, including this morning, which was two below.

Don't do what I did. It is very embarrassing to drive off with the cord still attached. The tire does a real job on the end of the extension cord.

I thought all '04s came with the cord. It will be on the passenger side, near the tow hook (tie strapped in behind it). If yours is missing, look here:

Thank you very much.  I am taking it to the dealership and having them install it.  Too much of a pain for me to do it...lol..

If your truck is a Ford diesel, there shouldn't be anything to install.  They come stock with a block heater, as someone else mentioned you just need to find the plug and plug an extension cord into it.

It's usually on the passenger side, somewhere under the headlight.

Actually, if I remember from the diesel forums, Ford stopped making that standard equipment.  I am not sure what year that happened.  If it was being shipped to what it called it cold weather state then it came on there as well as a charge.  If it did not go to one of those states, then the dealer had to have it added.  I am almost certain I saw a thread on this last winter.  I know my 06 F-250 does not have one on it.

I just went out and looked and was rather surprised to find that my Dodge had one.  I bought it in S. Tx.  Not much need for it there.

What is the cost for an oil change with synthetic oil, and how many miles between changes.

$28/ gal, diesel needs 15 qts plus filter cost.  I change oils at 10k, manuf recommends 5k, oil co says 15k. Runs cooler, better milage, more engine protection than petroleum based oils. All my vehicles have synthetics, engines, transmissions, all lube points, including my four diesels.

Probably the one of the safest ways to know how far you can go in between changes is to have your oil tested.

I should have stated it was the wiring assembly for the block warmer that needed installed.  It was strongly recommended that I take it and have it done, which it is at the shop now.  It does have the blockwarmer, just didn't have the necessary wiring harness for it.  Someone removed it before we purchased the vehicle.  We didn't think to look for that when we bought it a couple years ago, just was too excited..lol..
