hey all!

my new trailer is arriving soon (hooray!) and I"m starting to acquire all the bits and bobs that one needs.

to that end...whats your favorite hay bag for the outside of the trailer? not a fan of hay nets (if I had a nickle for every time some horse did a yoga move and got their foot hooked...) I'm hoping to find a hay bag that will not only hold hay but not scratch my shiney new trailer.

all the ones I'm finding have metal D-rings on the back. Does anyone know of a brand that has webbing loops instead? looking online I'm finding the descriptions sorely lacking...

also, how do you hang water buckets at the side of the trailer? just a two ended snap? permanent bucket hooks? what do you do so the bucket wont scratch up the trailer?

thanks!

Look for posts from Painted Horse. She shows how she uses a tarp like sheet to go over the outside of her trailer to keep from getting scratched. Very neat indeed!

A little duct tape placed over the D-rings will keep them from scratching the trailer.

Actually, I think there is a book by that name!

My son and hubby can build and/or repair just about anything with a little duct tape, baling twine and a few tobacco sticks.  Country Engineering 101

The duct tape is a great idea but the Classic Equine bags use a nylon loop instead of metal. These are also very easy to fill and, in my opinion, are one of the best hay bags. They come in many cool colors too. I am also not a fan of hay nets but my 'destroyer' has killed many hay bags so I use a slow feed hay net. He can't stick his foot in that. Enjoy your new rig!

I bought aluminum bucket hangers from jeffers and had them attached to the side of the trailer. One between each tie on my 2H GN. they work great to hang water or feed buckets on the side of the trailer. Can accomodate a full size bucket or the small ones.

I have the Tie-rite system on my trailer as well, so if I use it, I can hang the water bucket over night, no spilling & then switch out with the feed one for the short time it takes him to scarf down his grain. For hay bags, I have a variety of cloth ones, but them cheap as I use alot of them.
