How much do they cost to rent?  I have someone wanting to rent my 4hrs 8ft short wall loaded LQ trailer to go to NBHA Youth Worlds in July.  They would need it for around 13 days.

What would be something to charge?  Any ideas?  I know a friend of mine rents his two horse bumper pull for $50 per day.

Make sure you have a good written contract, proper identification, an up to date insurance policy, and a very large cash deposit.

Fourteen letters of reference, their first born and the mortage to their house should also be required.

Call one of the RV rental places and see what a RV would rent for.  I don't see many LQ for rent. But there are lots of RVs for rent.

I used to rent 26'-28'RV's in Alaska when we went up fishing for around a $125 day.  Probably a lot more now, since it's been a few years since I been up.

Compare something close in amenities. You can't expect to rent a Pusher Diesel 36' RV for the same price as a 26' van chassis RV.  You might look at what a Toy Hauler rents for. the travel trailer that hauls ATVs in the back. that might be a apples to apples type of comparison with your horse trailer.

Back several years ago, when we used to rent used LQ trailers at our dealership, we would charge 3% of the value of the trailer.  If it was a big LQ that was valued at $45,000; we charged $1350.  This was usually for a week to 10 day trip.  We usually had something to fix on them when they returned, so I would make sure you get a good fee.

You really NEED to heed Gard's advice! You have no idea the can of worms you could be opening if something were to go wrong. Something that is no fault of yours or your "rented" equipment OR the fault of the person renting your trailer. Please be very cautious. I don't think that you are clearly thinking this thing through.

I would make them take out insurance on the trailer, I doubt that your insurance covers renting it out. Take a video of the inside and outside of the trailer, and get a $4,000 security deposit plus $2,000 in advance for 10 day rental. Then tell them it would be cheaper to rent a RV and pull a bumper pull trailer.

Well I told her $100 per day and get insurance on it thru her insurance and she said that was to much and wasn't interested.  Oh well, try to do someone a favor and help them out and they want it for free, NOT!

In the long run, you may be fortunate she didn't rent your trailer.

NATDA launched a trailer rental program for dealers in January of 2008. According to MBA insurance (the company that has the trailer rental insurance program) 50+ dealers have signed up for the program. Renting an LQ trailer should run between $115-$275 a night. P&P Trailers in Texas has a lq rental program in place. As the economy has slowed trailer sales to a standstill trailer rental will become a viable option for some, and a way for dealers to find new sources of revenue. For the three times a years that we would need a lq trailer, rental is a fantastic option, as well as providing us a try before we buy option.
