I'm looking for a 2 horse bumper pull trailer that will be pulled by my 2000 dodge durango which has a towing capacity of 7500 and a wheelbase of 115 inches. I'd like to know which trailer i cna pull with the duango?

thanks

Most aluminum or aluminum skinned trailers that are a two horse slant or straight load with a dressing room will weigh from the high two's to 3500 pounds as a dry weight.  You can add an equalizer hitch to your trailer for better stability and weight ditribution.  Your Durango should handle this trailer OK.  I would make sure it has a tow package (including a transmission cooler) for best performance.

It may be that with an x-wide x-tall trailer with, 2 17+ h warmbloods (what do they weigh?) and gear, you will have quite a load for the Durango... I assume that it is an automatic transmission, and that you have a brake control installed, as the most critical issue is in the emergency stopping when you are close to the limits with live weight...

If you are hauling 2 large warmbloods, over 17 hands tall, you need more than a Durango. Period. The wheelbase is too short and you need more towing capacity.

Once you get a larger tow vehicle, you can then buy a suitable 2 horse side-by-side, extra tall, extra long trailer that they will fit in comfortably. And if they move, a large tow vehicle will handle that movement.

2H alum trailers versus 2H steel trailers will not have a BIG difference in weight, mainly because the  better alum trailers are built on steel frames and have steel lining the horse interior. Or, if the trailer is ALL alum, it takes more aluminum to create the strength of a steel trailer... so again, an alum 2H trailer with tack/dressing room won't weight that much less than a steel trailer.

Now, look for a trailer with FIBERglass roof. That lightens the load and increases the daylight. Also, makes a trailer cooler in hot weather.

Good luck.

We have had good luck with people pulling the Shadow Stablemate straight load for warm bloods and with smaller tow vehicles. The emty weight is 2500lbs and if you are worried about the wheel base then you would just need to ad a weight distribution hitch to put more weight forward on your Durango.

This trailer in the warmblood is fine for a V-8 SUV, comes with rear load ramp and Aero V nose for extra space in dressing room.
