how hard is it to install an AC unit? what do we have to do for CO2 sensors, etc? I can get one from the manufacturer but he can't install it for legal reasons because the trailer dosn't have complete LQ

Installing an A/C unit is straight forward if you're able to work with common hand tools. The hardest part is framing the roof to support the unit. I had the dealer weld the supports for mine. If your trailer already has the internal roof supports, then the hardest part is lifting the unit to the roof.
I don't have any "CO2" (you might mean CO )sensors because it's electrically operated and doen't generate any exhaust gas.

If you have a tractor witha loader, use that to lift the unit up to the top of the trailer. I have installed several of these units and thay are not hard at all. Just make sure you get the unit snug so you don't have any leaking. Additionally when doing the wiring I alway add an inside and outside outlet. Good luck.

Well since you are running AC to your A/C you might as well put an outlet inside the trailer for anything you might need a plugin for.....(lights, refrig.,etc). Additionally you will need to think of how you will hook up the power to your trailer. I learned the hardway when I did my first trailer about the outlets. I was always needing an outside outlet for one thing or another.

I went to an RV dealer and had them install one in my trailer. I don't know about that "can't install in trailer with no LQ". My trailer doesn't have an LQ and I know of several people who ship deer in a closed trailer that have an ac installed on them. Of course that was in TX and your in VA there may be different laws but I don't see why.

I'm not exactly sure about the legal reasons why an AC unit can't be added a dressing room. the trailer is back in Indiana for roof repairs at the factory and that's what they told me. Maybe they can't do it but the dealers can? I did talk to a guy at an RV repair place near here and he said he could do it no problem.
Unfortunately my husband got a little (!) upset when I mentioned spending extra $ for an AC so unless I can talk him into it between now and when the trailer comes back guess we won't be getting one for a while.

Since the trailer is already at the factory. You would be best served by having the factory install the roof supports for it around the vent. (assuming you don't have a finished interior ceiling)

Legal Reasons.... May be a contractual issue instead of a safety issue. They may have a contract with their a/c supplier that says the units only go into LQ conversions and they can't sell units alone. I'll bet they get an OEM price that would make most of us drool with envy.

Check your warranty! Make sure that by altering the structure of the trailer you do not void your Warranty. Also make sure it is braced correctly for an airconditioner. We have actually had to double reinforce some trailers that came with "reinforcing for airconditioning" so that we felt that it would be safe and the owner would not have to worry about thier airconditioner falling through the roof.

If you will watch Camper World they run intallation specials and their prices on the units are pretty cheap. I had one done a while ago and they had a $5 intallation special and I think the unit was 600. I didn't even have them hook it up. For $5 I wasn't going to wrestle it up there. They also seal them well.
