Hello, I am starting a new thread, but would like to thank those who responded to my posts on the other trailer tire thread. Those #&*#(*U#(* Carlisle tires that I was sold yesterday are going back! So, what size/ply/brand of tires do I want to buy? Trailer is a 2 horse gooseneck EquiSpirit, extra wide/tall/long in the horse compartment with a 3-4 foot dressing room. I appreciate all the advice and experience shared on this board! Trisha

What was on the trailer before the "Carlisle's"? What is the GVWR of the trailer? What size and load range was on the trailer when it was new (look at trailer data plate)?And, I would look at Michelin, Goodyear Marathon Radial LT's, Uniroyal Loredo AWP's, Les Schwab sells Toyo Open Country HT's that too would be a good choice. Just be sure it's a Light Truck tire, not a P series as in passenger car tire. Don't put a brand of tire on your horse trailer that you wouldn't put on your MaMa's car!!!!

Help! The tire dealers want to put trailer tires on - saying that they are built for towing, not riding. They are advising against "regular" tires.
75/225/15 Goodyears were on the trailer before - not sure of model. Trailer itself probably weighs 5000 lb empty (not sure of GVW as trailer parked elsewhere).
Thanks again! I feel like the stores are trying to buffalo me - but with your help it won't work!

I'm guessing they want you to keep what they sold you so they won't have to put them back in their inventory. That trailer of yours....I'm guessing came with 225/75R15 load range D, Goodyear Marathon Radials, these are made specially for trailers.....If you want a "trailer tire" then that's what I would put on it. A LT, or light truck load range D or E, 8 or 10 ply radial will work just as well. Call the folks at Equispirit, 1-877-575-1771 in Southern Pines N.C., they will be more than glad to tell you what came on the trailer as the O.E.M. tire. I promise you it won't nobody's "Carlisle"!!!

I agree with the others, get the E rated truck tires and forget the trailer tires. I have had good luck with the high end Michelins as well as Bridgestone Commercial Truck tires in the E range. One other bad thing about "trailer" tires is that not all places will fix the flat...had to learn that one the hard way! Make sure you have a good spare too!

That trailer came with ST225/75R15 LRD Goodyear tires, on either 5 bolt or 6 bolt wheels (probably 6). These are 15" tires made for trailers (stiffer sidewall, etc.). The LT (light truck) tires are 16" tires which won't fit your wheels and probably would be too tall and too fat to fit the trailer if you changed to 16" 6 bolt wheels.

Good advice. The best thing is to duplicate the Goodyears that were on the trailer when new. Remember to get them balanced. The trailer will give your horses a better ride and be easier to tow - giving you a better ride. And keep them inflated to the maximum pressure - It's printed on the tire. and get a good pressure gauge to check them with. I check mine before each trip.Good luck.

Now for the rest of the story (a happy one).
I put Towmaster ST225/75R15 tires all around, and got 2 mounted spares. Goodyear's traier tires have had some problems, so I stayed away from them. EquiSpirit was very helpful, responding efficiently and pleasantly to my questions. Good customer service! Les Schwab took back the #()*#)(* Carlisle's pleasantly and easily.

A few years back I was having problems with the Goodyear Wranglers that were on my 2001 Barrett. I came on here and asked and was told they were re-called. My GoodYear dealer couldn't find any info on it but after telling him what I found on here he called Goodyear and went to bat for me and I got all new tires for $25.00 a piece..I up-graded to some Michelins which he also carried.
I'm with you..I would of bought all new tires out of my pocket if it wasn't for this site..Thanks!
