Hey there DIYers! I am working on a minimal LQ in my 2H Bumper Pull's dressing room. It's been very fun and I have learned a LOT! I can see how this stuff can become addicting.

Anway,, the time has come to cut the square hole for the hot water heater. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I do know know what tool to use to do this. I was thinking this weekend of just using a hacksaw. Or maybe a jigsaw? It's a 16 x 12 hole and I want to get it right!

Thanks so much,
Bonnie

I used a good jig saw but put down some tape of some kind for the foot of the saw to ride so you won't scratch the outside. Put the tape down then make your mark on top of the tape and then cut the line start by making a hole with your drill. This may be more step by step than you wanted?

I very much appreciate the step by step!

This part is scary for me for obvious reasons!

As I already have a jigsaw I like this option. The trailer walls are aluminum and hopefully soft enough to cut easily.

Thank you!

Get yourself a good metal cutting jigsaw blade. Tape the area as stated earlier and mark your area your going to cut. Drill a hole where your going to start and just be easy with it. the blade will do the rest. aluminum cuts pretty easy. I've cut 3 holes in mine. First one I didn't know about the tape trick. This was the biggest for my shower: http://todd.redwrench.com/Full%20size%20images/CShower_Hole_Front_1...

Just remember...measure twice, cut once!

Thanks for the advice and encouragement, Todd. I just spent the last two hours looking at your website. WOW!

I know about the "Measure twice, cut once" rule. With me, I usually measure try for three times!

thanks,
B

Glad I looked at your window screen installation.  I have been thinking about doing that but wasn't sure how to attach the screens.  I have a 95 Charmac steel trailer with drop down windows, but the bars go down with the window.  My horse will eventually take that for an exit, so I was toying with the idea of having a couple small round bars welded in and screens, or just screens.  It just seems too hot in the trailer in summer with the dropdown doors shut, even with the bus windows open.  Any ideas as to how to build / weld an extra window of bars that is removeable or can drop down separately from the stock window?

Well, I installed the hot water heater this weekend! Thanks for the advice. I used a Dremel tool to start the cut, and finished with the jigsaw. Boy, that jigsaw went through the aluminum like a hot knife through butter!

Here are photos if anyone cares to look...

My propane hose is a little too small, so I need to get a longer one so I can stow it out of sight.

Thanks again!

Next are cabinets, a bed, and solar panel for charging the battery.
