I almost got taken out by a guy who was probably texting who drove thru my truck.
I was traveling in a 30 mph zone going 30 heaven only know how fast this guy was going. I had $8500 in damages done to back left, tailgate, bumper, bed, all drivers 'side doors and front bumper in Sept.
He totaled his GMC Sierra ...his front end was underneath my vehicle...
In addition they had to pull out my frame sooo...
The Lakota weighs in at 5600 lbs and I believe my RAM will tow 9500lbs but I want to be on the safe side of towing 2 horses with hay and some cargo...500-800lbs.

I'd be concerned on the tongue weight on the HUT. Just a visual, and the axles are set a tad back, and the LQ part of the trailer can NOT be that light. Then add all your "stuff" to it. I bet the over all weight before you add the horses to the trailer can add up pretty quick.
And just curious, with the price of the HUT's, why one of these, instead of a small LQ?

Holy smoke...I think I'd have had several thousand dollars of pain and suffering bills for a bozo like that... Have you looked into ANOTHER lease? http://www.lakotatrailers.com/hut/index.asp Before I signed on the dotted line, I would ask the dealer to demonstrate tongue weight of a fully loaded HUT...I'm sure Lakota has studied this problem and are within the parameters of a bumper hitch...but better safe than sorry...

I seen one of these last time I was at Hocking Hills in Ohio. It was really neat. The couple was pulling it with a late model Chevrolet 2500HD with a Duramax Diesel. Had a weight distributing hitch and sway control. The axles were set more forward than my GN's. It looked well balanced--couldn't be much different than a Travel Trailer. Most trucks like this are rated for 12,500 lbs max trailer weight and 1500 lbs tongue weight off the bumper with a WDH. He had a topper on his truck and used the bed for storage. Pretty neat rig overall.
I'd still buy a GN over one in a heartbeat...my $.02..

Well I do have the opportunity to get on board with the timing of truck and new trailer.
I guess I feel like it is a big jump to 3 horse GN with LQ.
What about a Trail Rider product BP or GN for a 3/4 Ton truck?
It is just little ole me traveling with my 2 horses....perhaps I could entice hubby to come along in an LQ with a dog or 2...even though it is usually just me drivin and towin!

Before I got my GN, I was worried about all kinds of things.....how would I hook it up, how would I do pulling it, backing it up, parking it, etc. I was very good at hooking up my BP and felt confident towing it. But once I got the GN and became familiar with all those operations, I found that I feel much more comfortable with the GN in all respects. I looked at the HUT before and it is very neat! I still think that given a choice I would choose a GN. But it is just a personal preference!

I have a cab over camper, and a 3 horse bumper pull. Its all paid for, and the set up works well for me. But if I was to sort of start fresh, and had a choice, I'd be looking at a LQ. Aren't those Hut's around $20,000 (or more?). That could be a nice little LQ.
For larger bumper pull trailers, and I mean ones that have length, and some weight, I prefer a dually. Adds to your stability. Yes, I know many pull with single rear, non duallys, but again, just what I prefer. I pulled a 4 horse for about 15 years, and that is about the length of the Hut that I saw in our area. As always, the pulling is easy, it is the stability and braking that is a concern for many trucks
