I'm getting the Bison!!!  I'm not decided yet between the 8' SW and the 10' SW but I'm definitely getting the new trailer. My husband is getting a 2000 or 2001 Dodge 3500 Diesel to pull it with and I am so excited.

My question is we are getting corral panels to keep the horses in while we're at Mule Days. Normally when we camp, we tie out or rent stalls but for security purposes the hubby wants the horses in locked corrals. What we are buying is 16' panels that we can use as a round pen as well. I don't want to mount the panels to the side of my new trailer. Is there a way and would it be safe to put them on top of the trailer where a hay rack would be? We'll probably only be transporting 4 to 7 of the panels (not the entire round pen) but I'm a little worried about the weight.

Thanks, Renee

i would be a little worried about them flying off the trailer going down the road... (not good).. if your husband can weld make some that slide together.. we made some using tube steel 1and 4th inch and the other side 1inch so it all slides together and goes down to 6' long open is 12' long.. we have a hay rack so we put them up there laying down..i was scared to use those pvc ones like everyone is buying just did not seem strong enough for my mind.(im sure they work great for some)..these panels each do weight in at 45lbs (sack of feed) so they are a little heavy.. i also made mine 4 and a half foot tall instead of 4 foot..they work great.. hope this helps you.... good luck

Cowpony01 has a corral in a bag that fits in her rear tack area.

I can't imagine trying to load a 16' panel on the roof of a trailer!  My 12's are easily 100lbs.

Can your roof handle this load?  How will you strap it down?  How will you load the panels?

First rule of hauling:  nothing you take on the road should require two people.

What if someone gets hurt/sick and can't help load?

Huntseat - I know what you mean. I was dreading getting those things up on top of the trailer and I seriously doubt that the roof of the trailer is capable of holding that load anyway.

What kind of brackets do you use if you want to stack the panels on the side of the trailer?

You sounded like you wanted something bigger than what I've got, but take a look at this site, this is what I have and I love them, they are easy for me to handl too! And like the one poster said, they fit right in my rear tack, you can see my black bag in the rear tack if you go to my photo site below.....

Here's the link to the panels, and you can order more panels too, I ordered 2 more and it's much nicer....mine were alot cheaper, he has gone up in price, but well worth it

CowPony, that looks great. We had some Aluminum telescoping panels made by Ox Bow Mfg in Iowa. they stretched out to 12' and telescoped to fit inside the trailer along the the slanted wall between the LQ and the horses (We use the front stall for hay and "stuff" that we need to take along. Similar idea. Each panel weigs abot 30# - easy to handle even for a small woman. But, the ones that Cow Pony has make a smaller package.

Renee - I sure wouldn't want to try to load 12' panels on the roof. If you damage the roof, you'll really be sorry. Few things are more aggravating than a leaky roof. Maybe, if you got a hay rack you could tie them on to that. It's just getting them up and down from the roof. If you can, cancel those big panels and get a kit like Cow Pony's. If not, talk to your Bison dealer about a hay rack. Bison makes one that's 4X8. It's about $1,000.

Hey. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. We're going to get the round pen anyway. It'll be handy to have at the house. But we are definitely goin gto get something more light weight than the corral panels. I'm a little nervous about PVC type stuff but I found this website and their contact was very responsive and friendly.  What do you think about these?

Those panels I have are not PVC, they are steel.............

Looked at those panels you mentioned too, they look exactlly how mine look when they are set up, except mine telescope down to fit in confined space which is nice and not hang on the trailer or take up room.

Just suggestions, also there is electric fencing that is cheap if cost is a concern, my friend got a corral in a bag for like $175 and it made a huge arse pen! She made hers so big her gelding was bucking and running around all night in it!

I reccommend  http://www.quicksilverarenas.com/  Their panels are aluminum and hinge together with velcro which make them quiet....very functional in my opinion. I like them
