I am thinking of getting a 2001 Brenderup Baron TC. I would like it if there are any Brenderup owners out there who could give me so tips about what to look for when buying one of these trailers. Also, I am considering pulling this trailer with my truck but only using the ball hitch, which is rated at 5,000 lbs and I am wondering if I should get a tow bar attached to the frame instead. Thanks!

Are you talking about pulling it with the "step bumper" hitch? I wouldn't really want to use the step bumper hitch to pull nothing much more than the saturday morning garbage to the dump. I would spend a little money and install a Putnam, Reese or Draw-Tite type hitch, that's bolted underneath the trucks rear frame. Also a trailer brake controller and the appropriate trailer wiring plug for the trailer brakes, running lights and turn signals.

Good luck with your Brenderup search.

There 35 Brenderup trailers for sale on HTW....

retento, some of the factory hitches appear to be a step bumper hitch, but actually have a receiver that is connected to the frame.  My Super Duty has a step bumper with the receiver underneath?  I never checked to see what my hitch is rated at from the factory?  Guess I should know that tid bit of info? 5000 pounds might be enough for the Brenderup trailer?  I'd ask Rosie Wilson if that is the case?  And what kind of truck and model?

I was kinda talking about the old style that had four 7/16" grade 5 bolts holding to to the frame.... I'm not too up on those modern style factory hitches!! I know my 2001 GM has the bumper bolted to the hitch...Or is the hitch bolted to the bumper?? I pull my little 14' stock trailer with it but, I wouldn't want too much more than that on it. I know I was behind a Tahoe yesterday and the reciever hitch was poking through the bumper, nice clean setup. I'm guesing this was a factory setup, looked stout enough for a Brenderup.

Rosie, I think I saw on one of the Brenderup sales web sites that they recommend using a hitch that is attached to the frame of the truck.  I don't remember what site I saw that on, though.  I do think it makes sense.  I also think you will love your Brenderup once you get it - I know I love mine and it perfectly fits my needs for a two-horse trailer that I can handle myself.  It takes me maybe five minutes to hitch it up and I am ready to go.  I don't go trailer camping, and I don't do showing - I just do local trail rides and occasionally camp in a tent.  Enjoy your new trailer!

I bought a Brenderup about a year and a half ago. I pull with my Toyota 4runner but only pull one horse at a time. Our drive is 180 miles round trip to the trainner, through a lot of highway traffic. It handles well and my Toyota has enough power to keep up with traffic. You might want to have the inerta brakes looked at. Maybe see the last time they were serviced. You don't need a brake controller with a Brenderup. One really nice thing about them I think. They are simple to hook up. I just pull the truck close to the hitch and then pull the trailer to the ball on the truck with my bare hands they are that well balanced.I think you will really like it.
