Planning on trip to Bighorns next year in Wyoming. Trying to decide about which camp to go. Hunters Corral, Battle Creek or Ten Broeck Rv in Ten Sleep. Would welcome any info as to what offers best scenery and riding out of that camp. Looks like Hunters Corral is only 2 miles off of Rt. 16 but Battle Creek looks like a pretty long way off of the main road. Would like to ride about a week or 10 days.

We've camped in WY several twice, and it's our favorite place to ride. I can't give an opinion on Hunters Corral nor Battle Creek. I can tell you about Ten Broek down in Ten Sleep. It is a super clean campground with great accommodations for the horse. Best yet are the owners, Darryl and Bonnie. It's been a few years, but when we camped there, they took us up into the mountains and rode with us. We provided the fuel even though they asked nothing for hauling us up in their huge stock trailer. The riding in the Big Horns is beautiful. One can ride above the quaint town of Ten Sleep, but it is high desert. The town of Ten Sleep is within walking distance of the campground. It is like a little oasis with lots of friendly folks. We've also camped up at Burgess Junction where you can ride directly out from camp. The riding in that area is also beautiful. I can fill you in on more information if you wish. My avatar is an overlook in WY.

Just got back. Stayed at both Hunters Corral and also Ten Broek. You can make reservations for Hunters, but not the easiest as they book up and you can't do it until 6mths inadvance of your trip. We had to reschedule the rest of the trip to fit around our reservations.
Hunters Corral - great primitive camping. Nice metal corrals, water hydrant. Not a lot of shade, but really wasnt needed. Some of the trails are shared with ATV's and Trucks. Mike is the camp host in August, great guy and very knowledgeable.
Ten Broek - we were originally concerned with hauling out everyday. Our opinions are completely different now. Darrel and Bonnie (owners) took us to places that we could only imagine. Different place each day and not on designated trails. They went with us every day except one. If they can work it into their schedule they love to ride. Camp ground is clean, bathrooms/showers are very clean.
We already booked for next year and are leaving Hunters Corral off of the journey.

" />Totally agree with Rusty. Here's a pic of Darryl and Bonnie who lead us to places like this up in the Big Horns. I now forget the elevation of this marker, but it had quite a vista as you can see. Wonderful host and hostess. We had lunch at the top of a waterfall.

Aceliberty - they took us there as well. The elevation is just over 10,000ft before you hike up to the spot of the picture. Did they take you on the "highline" ride?

Rusty, I couldn't recall the elevation but do remember that it was "way up there"! Glad you could fill in my memory gap. I don't remember the "highline ride" but have pictures taken along a high pretty trail. If I can find the picture I have in mind and post it, maybe you'll recognize it. Hubby doesn't ride, so we found Ten Broek one of our very places to camp. Hubby spend time checking out the local places. We walked for ice cream many afternoons. And yes, he liked a local little bar.

Awesome picture. In looking closely at it, I can see the horses far down the mountain. At one point, we were at the top of a mountain, and there was no trail down. Darryl lead us down safely. These pics were from '06, the year I started taking digital pictures. I failed to have them printed off as in previous trips where I wrote captions beside each one. So, I can't recall the specifics of these photos.

Go to Battle Park. We used to go to Hunter's. It is worth the drive into BP. No need for reservations. Its a big place once you get there. They also have pens just like Hunter's.
