The price is about the same. The slide really opens up the trailer but I am worried about mechanical failure once the warranty is out. I don't want to be in the boonies somewhere and have the slide not retract. What would you pick and why?

I would pick the 8 wide. With the 8 wide you will get more overall space. More space in the horse box for horses and "stuff", as the 8 wides usually have mangers and bigger rear tacks. More space in the bead area. More space in the bathroom. And last of all, more cupboard/closet space. Also, if you do the hay rack thing, a bigger hay rack. The only downside for me was no longer being able to carry corral panels on the outside of the trailer.

How about an 8' wide with a slide.... If you ordering new, now's the to to go for it...

I don't have anything with a slide but I do like my 8' wide trailers.

R, an 8 wide with slide pushes me a little over budget. I sure do like that slide, though! have been researching, including on here and a slide WILL fail at some time after a few years. I haul alot by myself and just worry about such failures. On the other hand, a lot of commentary is from the early 2000s. Maybe technology is better now? Also the slide is electric and fairly small, does that "help."

We opted against the slide because it made use of the LQ very difficult when not slid out.  We use the LQ while at rest stops.  Other than that a slide would be great.

I have a Lakota that is 8ft wide with the slide. It is possible to release the slide and push it in if the battery were to fail, however, it's not a fast or necessarily easy thing to do. just possible.  Personally, I would never own a slant that is not 8ft wide. Slide or no slide. The horses have more room and so do you. Good luck with your purchase whatever you decide!

Have you spoken to Gary Stites at Lakota of Ohio. As far as the price he gave us a great deal.We did get a 8'wide w/72"slide out we love all of our room now. I can't say enough good about them. You can call his cell phone day or night with any questions and he can walk you and help you fix it or in my case just figure out what I am doing wrong.

I have an 8' wide Lakota Charger and love all the room. My previous was 6'9" wide without a slide so I can't compare that but I can tell you that friends with the slide didn't really care for it when it came to getting ready to go camping.  If the slide was inside the trailer it made it ver difficult to get in and move around to get things loaded.  I think if you want the slide and can work it into your budget you will be much happier with the 8'.

An 8 wide LQ will be a lot easier to resell.

I have had a slide since '05 and it has not ever been a problem. (Bison 10'LQ with 8' slide). Not sure where you got your information from about a slide failing in a couple of years, but there are a number of other people I camp with who have had slides longer than that with no problems. Most trailers we see now have slides.
