Just wondering where you might suggest getting a rear tack compartment?  I have an 03 Kiefer with all the pin holes for the rear tack compartment and saddle stand.  Would you try the trailer manufacturer or get someone local to fabricate one?

Thanks for your help!

I think the option that would save you the most hassle would be talking to Kiefer.  However, then you only get what they have to offer, nothing else. My rear tack on my Kiefer is what I would rate as only OK.  I'd like to change a lot of things.

Two weeks ago at a show the trailer parked next to me had a home made rear tack and it was AWESOME!!!  The saddle racks had a double jointed swivel arm and they slid right out of the trailer so smoothly.  Instant easy access to the whole saddle rack.  Behind it there were bridle racks, blanket bars and brush boxes, buckets, a manure fork.... I could go on and on.  Because the whole saddle rack slid out so neatly, the rest was easily accessible.  Whoever it made it no shortage of talent, and certainly put some thought into it.

While I can't remember the brand of trailer, I observed a similar moveable saddle rack at a horse show. The whole unit pivoted on the left rear vertical trailer frame, swinging clear of the trailer and exposing the forward bulkhead ahead of the saddles. This too had hangers for tack. It was a very impressive unit, allowing complete access to the saddles and more space on the bulkhead that is normally covered.

I wish these units were offered as an after market accessory for various trailer brands. It might take a bit of work to install and fit, but they would be well worth the effort.

My Merhow came with an interesting feature in the rear tack. It has an arm with three bars that swings out from and also pins to the rear door that you can put your wet, smelly, nasty saddle pads and girths on so that they can hang up to dry away from your saddles.  I probably didn't describe it very well but it is really cool.  I just wish the three saddle racks were a bit higher off the floor so I could haul the generator under them. Oh well.

Well, considering the generator, I can see why you'd want the racks higher.  I have 4 saddle racks, and I want them LOWER.  Just try reaching the top one!  Even the second from the top takes some effort, and I'm not exactly short.   I'd love it if the racks would slid straight out and then down within reach.  Maybe something with hydraulics? High tech saddle racks!!

We custom build our trailers and the rear tacks when they are ordered but if someone want just the rear tack we can spec your rear tack out the way you want it and paint it to match you trailer... let me know if i can help in any way...
