I've had trailers with aluminum mangers for a lot of years. Last summer I down sized trailers and this trailer doesn't have the built in mangers. So I installed some corner feed bags. They lasted 3 maybe 4 trips before the horses had torn out the gromets and the bags were hanging by the last gromet.
Rather than spend a bunch of money new ones and have the same thing happen in 4 trips. I think I want to some how reinforce the bags so they will last. I know the Classic Trailer I had back in 2000 had corner bags and they lasted 5 years no problems. So I expect better than 4 trips.
The current bags are made of pvc/vinyl type of fabric with a light nylon web around the top edge. The gromets were in the nylon edge and just pulled through.
Any suggestions? I was thinking of taking them into a local saddle maker and having him sew some leather gussets at each corner.

Ditto with the corner hay bags that came with my Sundowner. I now use Busy Horse Hay Bags in my trailer. I have the Busy Buffet for Huginn and the Busy Snacker for Dixie. I would not recommend the Busy Snacker...way too hard to stuff with hay.

I have one horse that hates hay bags. With his last hay bag he stuck his foot in through the round opening and put all his weight on it until it poped out the bottom and pulled all the hay out onto the ground. He did it so quick I didn't even get to yell at him. Brand new, two day old haybag....... $20 bucks wasted.

My horses seem to like to wipe the sweat off after a good ride, They scratch where the headstall sat on the hay in the manger. Since I reverted back to a trailer with out a metal manger, They now rub on the corner hay bag. Which doesn't tolerate this abuse.
Never had a horse even try to get his foot that high. I think it would be pretty difficult for them to get a foot up that high. At least in my trailer configuration.

This horse seems to take hay bags as a personal affront. He is on his 4th one this year. I can't feed on the ground because of the sand. It has given me more problems.......

OK, don't laugh at me but,....The BusyBuffet looks a lot like that orange temporary fencing mat'l. Could you get some of that, sew up 3 sides, add a couple of carabiners on top and have yourself a good and cheap hay bag? In my experience the fencing mat'l is tough, tough, tough. And nobody would steal it...too ugly!
