Does anyone have a safe method to remove tar weed from horses faces, forelocks, legs & tails (without losing hair) that they have tried and it really works? I read online that simplegreen works (according to their website), but am concerned about trying something like that around or near a horse's eyes. Any help you could give me would be great.

I'm not familiar with Tar Weed, but at one time we used creosote treated fence boards and when it got hot, the "gunk" would get on the horses.  I went to the grocery and got a 1lb brick of lard and rubbed it on the creosote.  It came off great.  Give it a try! alot less caustic than simple green!

I have tarweed in my pasture, which I've been trying to get rid of for years. I spend hours pulling it. Now I mow the pasture every two weeks. I use Animal Legends shampoo on the horses. I works if you don't rinse it off immediately but work it in with a dish scrubber. I've also tried dish washing soap.

Any suggestions on getting rid of tarweed?
