I have a 1985 Phillips horse trailer in good shape but the spring action for the ramp is not springing, and the ramp weighs a ton !!Is there supposed to be a visible actual spring because I don't see one. I can barely lift the ramp.

My well aged horse trailer has a ramp and the old style spring assist. From the back of my ramp you can see where the "leaf spring" bolts on and assists the ramp both up and down. I can tell you from experience if one of the bolts breaks that attaches this leaf spring your ramp will feel like a ton of bricks. My suggestion is to lay down behind your trailer with the ramp up and latched then look under it to see if you see this leaf spring, it should be located in the middle and just stick out from under your trailer towards the rear.

Thanks for the info. I really need ringer this fixed. I can't lift it by myself. I took some photos but I'm not sure how to post them. I wonder if something is missing or broken.
