I am having a problem on my Sundowner Sportsman trailer with the rear windows. The window and the bars that cover the window stick out into the trailer and the horses rub themselves raw against the window guard bars. Anyone else have this problem?

Would it be possible to wrap the bars with some duct or electrical tape so they would be smooth?

I have a Sundowner Sportman and do not have this issue... it is a straightload, is yours a slant?

Yes, mines a slant. The horses I usually haul are mostly 16 hands plus as well. Trips are usually 400 to 600 miles.

Just as a note- the Sportman of the 80's-90's was a straightload. The new model Sportmans are slant.

Many horses will push back and brace themselves on the buttbar, rear wall, or corner of the divider & wall. I know that I see rubbed spots on the buttwall of many trailers, that are planety long enough Dobbin didn't have to rub the back, he just wanted to.

The window on the Sportman is 53" from the floor. What you are seeing is the actual window protruding into the horse ares. That's how windows mount as they are 2" thick or so. Obviously your horse is tall enough, and stands to the rear enough, he is rubbing it.

Looking at a Sportman, it would be my suggestion to accomodate that horse I'd give thought to installing a stall/divider pad under the window to hold him off of it. Most anything would work- but a pad is probably the only thing that he wouldn't show rub marks on also.

Touch base with your dealer. They should have or can get something that will work. If not, drop me a note.
