I was hoping someone could help me with a saddle size. I am thinking of purchasing an english saddle from an individual. They tell me it is 5 inches at the top of the padding and at the dees is measures 6 1/2".My questions is this medium, wide or extra wide tree. This is a saddle someone gave them. They have looked for markings but they are all gone. Any help would be appriecated, thanks

There are no name on the leather under the flap? before you buy the saddle will the person let you try it on your horse? that is the real test if the saddle fits the horse and you then if is a good fit other wise you could end up will a saddle that is useless

knowing the size width won't help you...since you don't know what width your horse is UNLESS YOU TRY THE SADDLE!  Dust your horse in baby powder then place the saddle on your horse (no pads.)  If there are any unrubbed areas under the saddle once you lift it straight off then it DOES NOT FIT YOUR HORSE!

It does not matter if it's a good/great deal it does not fit unless the powder has been evenly smashed down under the whole saddle area.  A poor fitting saddle will cost you tons in training and vet bills...trust me I've been down that road and it's long and expensive.  I could have had a brand new Hermes for what I spent in training only to find out my darned saddle caused the problems.  I got a great used Hermes and had a world quality show horse (like what I paid for in the first place!)
