I like coffee, but  I hate percolated coffee.  I hate french pressed coffee.  I would LOVE to have normal brewed coffee on my trail rides.  I see that they make 12v. coffee pots, but they have the plug that goes into the cigarette lighter.  How can I wire a 12v cigarette lighter plug into my trailer so I could brew normal coffee....or power any number of those cool 12v. gadgets that come with that type of plug (I'm certain it must have a proper name).

I  could just see myself spilling 8 cups of hot coffee all down my center console of my truck as I fumble for my mug and the creamer.  Nope...pot's not goin' in the truck.

Ideas?  And no, I'm not buying a 1500 dollar generator to power a coffee pot.

Go to the auto parts store or walmart and get a cigarette lighter receptacle.  In your trailer, this will need to be tied to 12v hot wire and grounded.  When the 12v wire is hot, and you plug the 12v appliance into the "cigarette lighter" you are in business.  Use heavy enough wire, and I recommend an inline fuse in there somewhere between the appliance and the battery..!!

I installed a 12V plug next to the power outlet on my counter.  I used a duplex ans switch cover plate and rounded out the switch hole.  See Picture.

Another way to do it would be to get a jump start box and plug into it. Mine has 2 cig. lighter receptacles, and there portable.

They make adaptors.  When I got my old cell phone it came with a car charger and not a house charger.  The adaptor was cheaper than buying a house charger.  I think I got it at walmart, but I have also seen it at radio shack.

They look like this.
