If you live around Richmond, MI. There is an ad Dream Horse 1153888. Look at horses not items. I called and told him I wanted most of his hay. Hubby showed me bills that keep the roof over my head. When he called me back I told him I could only take 10 bales. I also had another person who wanted 100 bales. He wanted to see what I bought before he went there. He never called me back. He told me he had about 300 bales left and was selling his horses. You can try but I can not promise anything. I really need hay- price no more than $3.00 if you have any and around Richmond area please let me know. Many Thanks!

Go to the Wayland hay auction every Tuesday at 3:45pm. Hay is averaging $3-7 a bale. Round bales average $45-90 each depending on size. Cash or check is accepted. Straw is averaging $2.50-$3 a bale. Expect it to get worse before it gets better. I live in Allegan, so I know exactly what you are looking at for hay prices. Your best bet is this spring find a hay farmer and PREPAY for all your hay upfront. That is what I do. I got mine for $2.75 a bale last summer, alfalfa/grass/timothy mix. Make sure you lock the price on and prepay for it. This way when the prices skyrocket in September you have your hay and at a much cheaper cost.
NOTE: I don't know what I was thinking, (side effects of my stroke..lol) for some reason I thought you were closer, than I got to thinking,,,that is Richland, not Richmond that is close to Wayland. Ooops..sorry. But the other advice still works. I know there is other hay auctions out there. Post a message on http://www.horsepage.com/board it is a Michigan based horse forum. 95% of the members are in Michigan. Most of them are in your area. Good luck with your search!

I grew up in Memphis and cant be live its hard to find hay. It use to be everywhere. There was a horse farm in Memphis. called EQUESTRIAN FARMS I worked there all thru school. We got hay from a farmer up the road named Fourner(not sure of the spelling) on Boardman Rd.(same road as farm) Not sure if the farm or farmer is still there, haven't been back in 9 years. They were both still there last time I was back.
Good luck I think the $3.00 a bale days are gone. At least here in TX.

I went to the Wayland hay auction last Tuesday and hay was averaging 2-4 a bale. Pure alfalfa was bringing $4 a bale, 1st cutting grass around $2-2.20 a bale. Straw was bringing $2-2.60 a bale. It is definitely coming down in our area.
