Thanks to the information I received here, I've decided that having battery power for my trailer is a must.
Now I have another question...
Is there any way to use the batteries to power one or more (definitely not all) the wall power outlets so that I could plug in something small (like a clock radio or something like that) if I wanted to and have power without using the generator or an electric hook up?

You will have to convert your battery 12v to an ac 110v using an inverter. The wall outlets are 110v. Use a battery powered radio. Why don't you involve your friend with the electrical knowledge in the design for your LQ? Show him what you want and where you want it. He can tell you what you will need.

Sure, but you don't want to.
Your batteries are 12vdc. Power from the batteries goes to an inverter, which, thru magic, is converted to 110vac. An inverter will have outlets on it. Plug any small unit (radio) into the inverter.
You can wire your inverter to a dedicated outlet, by why go thru the trouble?
Remember, you are turning 12vdc into 110vac. The magic that makes that little number into a big number is short lived. If you ask too much of your battery, it will be drained in short order. Lights, radio, maybe a small tv. Nothing more.

Once we start on it, I plan to. While sitting at work with tons of things crossing my mind, it's much easier to post my questions here in hopes of one or two friendly answers than it is to write it all down and throw it all at him when the time comes.

I have something similar to that which I also bought when I bought my laptop so I can charge it/operate it when going down the road.

Before my LQ days, I used my cell phone as my clock and alarm clock. One less thing to have to figure out how to power when I was camping in the dressing room of my trailer.

I was only using the clock radio as an example of something I would be trying to power from that outlet. I wanted to make sure people knew I wasn't trying to power my AC, TV or microwave from it.
