What kind of plates do you have on your trailers?  What are the conditions for an RT plate vs. an A B or C?  When do you need a different driver's license?

We were able to put semi plates on our trailer in TN.  You pay a one time plate fee and it is good for as long as you own the trailer.  It is a C&C 3H with LQ.  Now, for the camper, they make us put trailer tags on it.  They have to be renewed every year.

In PA the plates are renewed yearly with new tags on old plates. A different driver's license is needed when you get into CDL territory, which involves the heavier weights of the towing vehicle and trailer.

An RT vs A, B, C must be something local to your state.

Here in Utah the state sends you a plate when you buy any trailer. This is usually triggered by paying the sales tax on the purchase price and registering the vehicle in your name. The plate, registration and title are then mailed to you. There is no choice nor have I seen any different kind of plates. A trailer plate has 5 numbers and 1 letter vs vehicle plates that 3 letters and 3 numbers or 2 letters and 4 numbers. Mainly so the cops can tell if you took the plate off your trailer and put it on a car/truck. A trailer plate in Utah does not reveal, weight, size, private or commericial. It's just basically a id number and says the taxes have been paid for the year.

Each year after you are accessed a property tax on the value of the trailer. When paid they give you a new decal to stick on the license plate for that year.

Same thing with cars/pickup.  The plate is the same for me hauling a 16,000lb trailer as for the weekend gardner hauling some grass clippings to the dump on saturday in his Honda Ridgeline.

I think you will find the RT plate will be the one that you will choose.

It will be less costly, and you will not need a special drivers license.

If your trailer has a GVRW in excess of 10,000 lbs. and you put a weight type plate on it you will need a class A drivers license and if you are being paid say to haul other horses in your trailer then you will need a class A CDL.

I think you still have a drivers license office I would go there and get some books and ask questions. I have a class B CDL and could not legally pull my LQ trailer if I did have the RT plate. Had been hauling shavings for a not for profit organization , that trailer had a GVRW of 16,000 lbs
and I was in violation. Verified this with a state officer who works the
portable weigh scales. Hope this helps. One question, did you find a water tank?

I still havent found a water tank yet, but riding season isn't quite here yet.  They say 5" of snow tomorrow.  Then the thread about 5.00/gallon diesel made me think twice about spending the money on a water tank.  Perhaps hauling buckets isn't that bad...
