As I continue to trailer shop, I am exploring different scenarios, one of which is buying an empty DR and doing a basic LQ conversion myself (well, having it done), but I have no idea of the cost. Basically, what I would like to do is a basic conversion in a 4-5' short wall, to include: •• Lined and insulatedAC/110v/12v battery/converter •• Some interior cabinets, boot box/step, a countertop with sink, fridge, microwave •• Cowboy showerWater tank w/ pump that runs on 12v, with electric on-demand water heater (don't want propane) •• Of course, things like lights and such....doesn't have to be fancy, just simple and neat and functional. Any idea of what a basic conversion like this would cost? I have no idea if it would be $1k or $10k.

If you can wait about two more weeks mine should be complete and I can give you a ball park figure, of course I am hiring a friend to do the work so that will have to include the cost of an installer. Renee J.

Had all those things you listed installed in addtion to a 12 foot awning, inside/ outside speakers, radio/CD player, Batwing TV antenna, recessed lights, 2 propane tanks, and battery box for $4200 in 2001. However, I would expect it to run around $5000 now due to rising lumber and material costs.

I had a quote of 3k to just insulate and panel and wire for lighting in there from some guy that does conversions over the winter time. If I recall companies charge around 200.00 per sq foot.

unless you can do the work yourself, I really think it's cheaper to buy a trailer already completed. There are good used trailers for sale all the time. I'm also wondering why you don't want propane.
I camped with a friend who had hers built piece by piece and she admits she spent a lot more this way. She only has electric and yes she has a generator, but her fridge is bascially a cooler and she regrets not installing propane. After camping with her (for 3 years) I knew to buy one with propane.
I bought a 5' LQ that has propane fridge, hot water heater, and cooktop and while I have a generator to run the AC and microwave, I can easily go camping without it and do just fine. Even when I have electric, I leave the fridge on propane as it stays much colder than on electric. I camped 10 times this past season and only used 1 propane bottle - its very economical.

I paid around $8000 for a 6 foot short wall.....all the things you listed except no microwave or fridge and I had a shower/toilet combo added with grey and black tanks. Mine is very nice and I feel like we saved money having it done after we purchased the trailer instead of purchasing a trailer with LQ in it already (and I got to have everything where and how I wanted it!)

I got quoted a price last year for $5500....4 ft SW...cabinets, fridge and micro...NO PLUMBING!!!!!!!! just to wire and insulate and install AC is $2200

Does anybody know anyone around the Kansas City, MO area that does LQ's.. My friend checked on one place and they wanted $16,000 to finish a 4 ft shortwall and the ac and fuse box is already in the trailer.. Seems crazy high to me.. Let me know if you all know of someone.. Thanks.

im not sure which way would be cheaper. i do know two yrs ago when i was trailer shopping i was looking at a 6'short wall by the time i keep adding things i was going to have way to much money into it by not being full lq...(full bath)so i went on and bought one already done it was a last yrs model already on the lot so i got a pretty fair deal on it...i am now glad i did it this way because either way i was going to be making a payment so if you have to make a payment on something might as well love it not just like it... good luck with your trailer...happy trails

I've done mine myself. Had a quote for different things to get done by conversion companies and it ran anywhere from $4 to $6k. Motivated me to do it myself. I have a little under $2k in mine doing it myself (it's getting close to being over $2k though)

WOW!! I feel pretty good about the quote I rec'd the other day
shower/toilet combo, fridge, microwave, insulation/panelling, cabinets, TV cabinet, bench and steps - $6400. 4' SW and they told me I could probably get it back within a couple weeks.

Their price for the standard package is right there on their website (somewhere). Mine was adjusted because I already have the AC installed, but then additional charges were added for the toilet and the space for the microwave and fridge (which I will purchase on my own).
