Anyone been to Horse Heaven Ranch in Oklahoma lately? Read on another website post that the horse pens were in need of repair and the sites were very muddy. Going there in September for the first time and want to make sure we bring plenty of shavings and a tool kit if stalls need repair.

I am thinking they got Horse Heaven confused with Horse Haven???? We were at Horse Heaven in Talihena earlier this spring and it was great. It can get a little muddy when they get a gully washer, like everywhere else. The pens are steel pipe pens that are freshly painted (white) and we usually take plenty of shavings anywhere we go. On the way down, if you have plenty of time, check out Cedar Lake as well... the sites are great and we didn't even get on all the trails because we had a "light rider" with us....

Calamity J, We were there several years ago and have heard that horse pens are available now. Do you know if all the sites with electric/water have horse pens at Cedar Lake? I just called the Ranger Station and the person wasn't sure if all the sites had corrals and if each site had 1 big one for 2 horses or if there were 2 pens for each single site. Any additional info would be great.

I heard that the pens were bad but some people are spoiled and it has been raining. I was never crazy about the cable but our horses did just fine in them when we have gone there.
Is there a Horse Haven? I think most people just call Horse Heaven that. Several of my friends do and they have been to Horse Heaven and still say it wrong.

We were there in April and when it rained it was muddy; however, the stalls seemed to be in pretty good shape. Only concern we had was about the sites -- they were difficult to get in & out of if you had a long rig and making turns around the campground (bumper pulls with truck campers were not a problem).

We went to Horse Heaven Ranch Resort near Talahina, OK last fall and had a great time. The place is gorgeous. The owners were very nice. The pens were nice enough. The cabins were very nice. I did have trouble pulling my rig into the parking spot but I don't know that all spots are that way. It's hilly. Make sure you have pads on your horse's feet because the trails are very rocky in places. Also, the trails were not that well marked so I didn't feel comfortable venturing out on my own. We were at Cedar Lake in August and they had 2 pens at each elec/water site. That is one of the nicest horse camps I have ever been in. I wear my Cedar Lake trail hankie a lot.....you can get them from the camp host and they really do not fade with washing.

Tell us a little more about Cedar Lake. We're planning to go there next spring and are wondering about the campground, reservations, trail conditions, maps. Do you know if there is a website?

Cedar Lake is probably one of the best horse camps around. I have been going there for the last 8 years. Very clean, with a nice showerhouse. Trails are good and well marked. Be sure and make reservations early, there are several spots that aren't reservable but they fill up fast. Large camping spots and they are spread out nicely. Cedar Lake is the best horse camp I've ever been too. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 10. Trails go from very easy to very rugged - just take your pick.
