I have an old horse trailer with a heavy sheet metal skin that is starting to rust out in spots. I purchased some new painted aluminum panels at a scrap yard for less than the price of good paint. I plan to sandblast/grind/sand out the rust, prime or Zero Rust the steel sheet, and then pop rivet the aluminum over top. Sort of like putting aluminum siding over an old house.
My questions are:
Should I leave the small holes in the steel roof for weep holes?
What is my best choice for rivets to fasten aluminum to steel? Or would double sided tape be better?
Do I need a gap between the aluminum and steel sheets?
I am in too deep into this project - please don't suggest abandoning it!
