I'm now entering my second season pulling my 3H gooseneck. I'm getting a little frustrated with my timed brake controller. If I go ahead and purchase a new controller, can I just swap them, or am I going to have to spend another hour upside-down under the dash splicing wires? In other works, are the connectors on the controllers themselves standardized? Are they at least standardized if I stick with the same manufacturer? (Reese)

If your present controller is wired into a brake control harness, it is plugged in under the dash. Unplug it, cut the old controller off of it, wire the new controller to the harness (you can do this standing erect), and plug it back in.
If you don't have a pre wired vehicle, you will be standing on your head under the dash. Good luck.

kay, you got a good point there. I'll only have to play like a bat to cut the tie wraps and pull the harness out from where I went to some effort to route it out of the way of the pedals etc. Then do it all over again. I'd still rather pull the connector from the old controller and plug in the new one. And, oh yeah, it would be nice if the mounting bracket is compatible as well.... sigh. I'm probably SOL

My dad says his brake controller has a cable that hooks to the brake pedal somehow and proportions the brakes that way. Has anybody heard of that? Are they any good?

Heh, Yeah, I decided I can't put up with it any more when I realized I have the ramp set at the slowest setting and keep the 'peak' low enough that the truck is doing most of the braking. What is the point of even having the thing?!?
What 'ought' to be illegal is the prices! The accelerometers used to be expensive, but like all things silicon, they are practically free today. $300 CAD is outrageous for something that can't cost more than the $70 model to make.
