I have a s10 pickup with the ZR2 package. It's got a vortec v6. I have a little 2H steel trailer. Haven't taken it to get weighed but I'm guessing about 2000# empty. Will my truck handle it?

Too many variables here.

How big is the horses, how much does it weigh, how much time in the hills, and what about stopping!!

Will it move the setup?.... sure, but safely?

My horses and my life are worth a lot more than doing something halfa$$, and getting my babies,or my self hurt.  Borrow, or beg a real truck, with at least a 1/2 ton, full size, being the minimum. Also don't forget to get the trailer brake unit for under the dashboard.

We have had folks try to tow with 4 banger toyotas too... they went over the side of the hills and down the ravine too!   horses destroyed, and people were fine...too bad about the people!

Hi there thanks for the suggestions! Yeah this is true, I'd hate to endanger my horses. But where I live (and will be hauling mostly) is flaaat flat flat. And my critters are all 15hh or smaller QHs. So until I can afford a bigger truck (which is in the works) I just wanted to make sure this wasn't too bad of a setup. Thanks again.

What does your owners manual say is the maximum towing capacity?  I'd start there.   It will depend on the size of your engine and which transmission and rear end you have, if there were options for such for your truck.

I had an S10 one time and tried towing a 2h steel trailer. It pulled it find but wasn't fun trying to stop it. You could feel the trailer pushing the truck. NOT SAFE!!!!! Get atleast a full size truck...

I won't tow a trailer that pushes the truck reguardless of the size of truck. All trailer brakes should deal with most of the trailer weight. A dually ain't going to do a bunch better with a maximium rated trailer size with no trailer brakes than a S10 towing with the same conditions. You gotta have brakes on the trailer. I will tow overloaded but I won't tow without brakes!
