I'm looking at a 99' Chev. dually diesel with 116,000 mi. and I am wondering if I should wait and find a 2001 when the duramax came out. What do you think Mr. Truck about the diesel's from 1999 that have over 100,000 mi. on them? Heard any bad news about them? I am pulling a three horse slant gooseneck steel trailer. Thanks!

The few I've known that had them loved them. Not a lot of zip but ran good and was dependable.I saw one(dually) a few months back that looked like new with 250k on on it.Had recently had a injection pump.Owner said only major repair.I'd rather have a 1999 give or take Dodge or a 7.3 Ford even with the injection pump issues.Stouter truck all the way around

I agree with what others have said, I would get a Duramax, a 7.3 liter Ford or a Dodge cummins. Although, if you buy a '99 Dodge, be carefull, I believe that was the year they had a problem with engine blocks cracking.
Whatever you buy, if you are buying used, I would have a good Diesel mechanic check it over before you buy it.

Thanks very much for the feedback. I'll just have to be patient to find a duramax in my price range or one of the others. I will have a diesel mechanic look it over no matter what I buy. Happy trails!
