I have probably a stupid question. I have always had leather treads on my stirrups, and really never had a problem with any of my boots, rather it was leather or crepe soles releasing. Now I just got a New saddle that came with the roper style stirrups that do not have the leather on the bottom tread and It seems that my foot doesn't release has smooth or as fast as with the leather. Can anyone tell me why some with leather and some with not. Thank you

What is the tread on the stirrup? Also, the stirrups on roping saddles are made a little bit on the narrow side from what I have experienced. They do not have the width at the bottom. I ended up replacing the stirrups on the last saddle I bought simply because I could not get out of them. However, I do have a size 13 boot. Still, you could plainly see the difference in how they were made could be a problem.

I buy an oversized wood stirrup that is wrapped in tin. When I get them, they are unfinished wood. I will stain them the color I want and add a clear coat on them and they work fine for me. You could take them to a local leather maker and have them add a leather tread in the bottom if you want. With size 13 boots, I have a tendancy of getting hung up in a stirrup if I am not careful. Some magazines will have the leather that you can buy to add to a stirrup to make them work like you want. Best of luck with it.

Has anyone tried the new SA Walls slanted 3 inch aluminum stirrups? I have problems with my feet going to sleep in the stirrups if I ride for extended periods. I have heard that these stirrups will correct the problem. Any thoughts?c

I cut a 1/2 inch thick piece of foam rubber and put it on the inside 1/3 to 1/2 of the stirrup. I thought I would try that before I sprung for new stirrups. That was a year ago and the padding is still there. Helped my knees a lot. Compared the cost of new stirrups and the 0 cost of the padding and left the stirrups for someone else to buy.
