Well the reviews are coming in.  I'm looking forward to reading Mr. Truck's take on all this.  So far I've read a mixed bag at http://www.edmunds.com/, http://www.motortrend.com/, and http://www.caranddriver.com/.

The one consensus is that these "1/2" ton trucks are very powerful and very large.  With payload capacities in excess of 2000lbs, and tow ratings well over 10,000lbs I don't think it's really accurate to call these 1/2 ton trucks. 

Car and Driver was the first review I have read where they hooked up a trailer - 8000lbs - and according to them it was pretty effortless.

I still think Chevy's new Silverado would be my 1st choice - But I will have to drive one of these before I put the $$ down on one.
