JUST PASSING THIS ON IN CASE ANY HAS AN INTEREST.
The Animali Farm will do all that it can to place the foals through the end of this month. If you are able to adopt, please email or call us. Please keep in mind that there is only one full time person in the office, if we don?t get right back with you try again.
There are over 100 foals needing homes by the end of the month. Below is a brief list of the foals with a deadline. A few mares are in the same situation.
APPALOOSAS: There are about 50 appaloosa foals still needing homes. Quite a few of them are colored appaloosas, and they can be registered. This ranch is going out of the horse breeding business this year. They are also selling their mares and stallions, but they can give them a little bit more time. The foals have to go at the end of the month.
QUARTERHORSES: There are still 25 registered Quarterhorse foals needing homes. Their pedigrees include such sires as Doc Bar, Old Sorrel, Bueno Chex, Poco Bueno, King and Leo. In addition to that there are some really nice colors (Buckskin, Roan, Palomino).
DRAFT CROSSES: There are still 7 of Kings babies needing homes, all but one of them are pinto! These babies are ¾ Draft ¼ Paint and will mature 16+ hands. King is the sire of some of our most popular horses over the past few years. This may be the last year that you can get one of his foals. There are also three Blue Roan Quarterhorse/Light Draft crosses still needing homes. These foals should mature 15.2-16 hands and be wonderful riding horses. There is even one Canadian/Lt. Draft cross foal (Jewell?s baby) still needing a home.
FJORD CROSSES: There are 6 fjord crosses left. These are some of our favorite horses, in fact we hope to start driving Cheryl's Fjord (Tennessee Ernie Fjord) as soon as this rush is over. These cute horses mature to about 14.2 hands, and are stout. They have the sweetest, calmest personalities and are often used in therapeutic riding programs. They are born wearing a fawn coat, and shed out to look just like their mothers.
There are also two draft cross mares that need homes right away. They are not in foal, and the rancher will not be keeping them over the winter. One is Nutmeg, a red roan Belgian cross. We have tried to find her a home for two years, and are worried that she may not get one. The other is Jip a grulla Fjord/Percheron cross. Jip is about 14.2 hands and lovely.
To see all of the horses that need homes immediately go to our website, www.theanimalifarm.com and click on the button at the top which says, ?Horses with November 30, 2006 Deadline". This will take you to a section of our site where you can look at just those horses. If you are a frequent visitor to our site remember to refresh your browser to get the latest version of the site. We are posting new information daily.
Please feel free to forward this email to your horse friends. The only way these babies will get adopted is if enough people know about them.
If you are able to adopt, please call us at 805-938-0174. Please remember we are in California, and call during business hours. Please leave a message if we do not answer. The machine picks up if we are on the phone with another adopter. We will call you back.
Your donations are also appreciated. We use donations to reduce the fees on horses that are running out of time. At a time like this you can really make a difference, even if you cannot adopt a horse. No amount is too small, this email is going to thousands of people and if everyone just gave a little we could make a huge difference.
Thank you very much.

THE ANIMALI FARM IS A 501(c)3, nonprofit organization. We focus on placing horses no longer needed by the PMU (Pregnant Mare Urine) industry. The industry has dramatically reduced production since women have reduced their use of Premarin. The Animali Farm has found homes for nearly 1000 ?Premarin? horses in the past 4 years. We have done this by helping a handful of PMU ranchers in one small town in Alberta find homes for their horses after they lost their PMU contracts. We are not a large organization, just two women and a small group of volunteers. It has been a long haul, and there is more to do.

I looked up this website www.theanimalifarm.com and frankly it irritated me. I see absolutely no reason to import unwanted horses from Canada. One of the ads reads as follows:
Adoption Fee: $2600.00
Includes Coggins/Border and Shipping to a central drop site, up to 2000 miles.
This is for a 10 year old untrained broodmare!!!!!!!!!
Now if anyone wants a good horse, I have a 5 year old registered AQHA gelding, very well broke, current on coggins and shots, no need for a border crossing, and he can be yours for $2,200. He is black with hind socks. And he is very sweet, gentle, and loves people. Gets along well with other horses.
If you want a mare, I have an excellent 6 year old saddle mare, well broke, gentle, sweet and current on coggins and shots, available for $2,100.
AND you do not have to go to CANADA to get them.

Let us not ignore these horses need for a home simply because they are in Canada. I was simply making the information available to others and was not trying to take U. S. buyers away for U. S. horses being offered for sale. I'm sure there are many women in the U. S. using the product made from these horses. Certainly it is not the horses fault they are in Canada being used to simply collect urine, leaving them untrained. If you offer the horses free or at or below canners prices, canners will show up. I have a friend that purchased two of these horses and is very happy with the purchase. Oh, and not all the horses listed on this site are in Canada, some are in California, not all are as expensive as you say. I wish you luck with the sale of your horses, truly they are not in the same category as these. Sorry you are bothered by the search for homes for these horses.

I'm sorry, but this looks like an excellent marketing strategy for foals. At first, when I started to look at the pedigree on some and the confirmation, I was impressed at the condition they were in. However, when you look at the prices of these horses, they are much higher than the run of the mill registered colts we have down here. This looks like a clever way to try and move horses and make a good dollar at the same time. Granted, I realize the shipping would be high in some cases. I will have to say that it was beneficial to my horse science class today. I displayed the QH foals and had them to look over each one and decide which they felt was the best one for the money with regards to pedigree and confirmation. My class really enjoyed looking at the wide variety and many did not know what PMU meant.

When I told my friend that adopted a horse from this Farm in the past that people thought the price was high, this is how she responded. On the price ~ people don't realize that this group includes EVERYTHING in their price. The cost for the horse/baby ~ shipping from Canada~vet fees ~border fees?. So it really is pretty reasonable if that is want you want to do. When I got pippa I spent $475 for her ~plus $500 for shipping ~ plus $100 for vet and border fees ~ PLUS another $200 to get her from the central delivery point to my home. So all of that adds up to about what Animali is charging. To each his own . I have gotten some negative feed back from the forum too. Whatever. They are babies that need homes ~ with the risk of be served at a Japanese McDonalds. My Pippa is worth every cent I spent for her ~ it's not about the money ~ but about doing my little part ~ if we all could just save just one. The funny thing is ~ all of these anti slaughter people are some of the same people that bitch about all of the trashy pmu horses flooding the market. Go figure.

Well Veruska, if you are a regular on this site, you will know that I am not anti-slaughter; far from it, in fact. What would a similar AMERICAN colt have cost you? I am glad you like your purchase.
So that you will know, I "adopted" a crippled pony several years ago. My friend in Alabama met me halfway with the pony. I don't request contributions for this pony.
I also bought back a pony last year that the people had allowed to founder. And yes, I gave them back what they paid for the pony.
Both of these ponies will be here for the rest of their lives.
I also "adopted" a quarter filly last year; the owner met me halfway and would not take any money for the filly even tho she had spent some on coggins and vaccinations. That filly is still here and probably will be forever. I expect to train her to drive when she is old enough.
Now if you have the ability to pay double or more the market price for a colt or filly, please consider buying AMERICAN.

Oh and by the way, there are several reasons the PMU market is depressed; one is the prevalence of plant based estrogens such as the brand name drug Estrace; and the second is the anti hrt bias of the medical community.

Its a nice web site. Kinda expensive though. My grandmother used to work at a PMU farm in NY years ago and they never kept pedigrees/papers or had any geldings there. And why would they be adopting/considering sending to auction a young money earning race horse, just put him in a claiming race and he's gone.
I've thought of getting a PMU baby but it is cheaper to find one at auction here.

I have a friend who only purchases PMU draft crosess...in which make very nice english prospects. He put some time and training in this filly and turned around ,and sold her for $15,000.Not bad. These horses make very nice turn arounds.Even if he had paid $2,500 he still got his $ back with one heck of a profit! If you consider what you would pay for a nicely bred warmblood...and by the way draft crosess are considered warmbloods....You could easily pay 5,000 and up.

I agree with horsecrazi. Where we live we have an auction house called Eylers (not a slaughter auction house). Every now and then someone brings in the PMU foals and yearlings. They get purchased at a very low price. Like around $200 per horse. And all get sold. Nothing near the prices quoted on the website. I agree with Rose. Someone's making some bucks on these animals.

The prices looked reasonable to me. I'm guessing horses are less expensive in other parts of the country. Also, shipping would cost more depending where you live and the Animali place is in Santa Maria (So. Cal), pretty far from Canada. The Fjord babies looked adorable...I do not need another horse...I do not need another horse...I do not need another horse...
