Hey all- How do the Exiss SS-20's hold up?  This is the Event model, not Sport which I hear has thinner floors.  Have a gently used 03 nearby.

Sundowner- Stampede SL- 2horse. THis is new.  Any experiences with Sundowner longevity?  Have avoided these brands due to negative comments on the Exiss and feel Sundowners are overpriced for what you get.  Plus not sure they'll hold up well.

However, found out it is the Exiss Sport to avoid and both of these have fair price tags on them.  LIke the SUndowner for the wider stalls at 42 inch, like the 'rhino-lined' floor and walls, thing seems indestructible.  For the Exiss, it is more enclosed with drop down windows.

Any comments on either of these models?  Both BP around 3000lbs.

Thank you!

I know several people that have exiss and we ended up buying a Sundowner, I have to say I can tell a difference and in the long run a Sundowner will hold value!

Sundowner Aluminum over Steel -VS- Exiss all Aluminum, I would take the All Aluminum, but I will agree that Sundowners do hold value well. I don't really agree with the wider stall unless you are hauling a horse that needs it. I don't want my horses back there moving around anymore than needed. I haul 1300lb Quarter horse in 39" stall and he has plenty of room. JMHO

I'd take an Exiss Event over a Sundowner any day. Our 2000 3 horse Exiss Event has over 50k miles on it and has been a great trailer. In my opinion, Sundowners are overpriced and I haven't been impressed with them. If I were going to spend that kind of money on a trailer, it wouldn't be on a Sundowner.

I have owned several trailers in the past. The last 2 I have owned have been Sundowners. I looked for a long time before I purchased the one i have now. I heard tons of stuff from tons of people, " you are just paying for the name " for example. Well let me just say this , I had a 1990 steel 4H w/LQ that i sold for $18,500 so I no the re-sale value is good on them. I now own a 1997 that looks like a 2006 which i have also turned down alot of money for. I looked at all brands before I bought this one and I looked close at the structure,( i use to weld)  I looked at a 2000 exiss (at the time was only 2 yrs old) that had a major roof leak, i was informed they will warranty the roof for 3yrs now.. I LOL and said well they need to do something. I can say that i have had no problems what so ever with my USED Sundowner (either one of them) and if and when i decide to sell it i will get my money back out of it. I can honestly say a Sundowner will be the only trailer I will own. You get what you pay for and they are top of the line. They don't hold the highest resale value for no reason.

I had avoided Sundowner as they seem overpriced. I went and looked at the Stampede and frankly it is just too small (head to tail) despite the wide stalls.  I was also shocked that the beams under the floor were spaced at 24 inches!  Most are 12-15 inches.  I only considered it as the price was dropped to $9,600. The used one (model 777) I saw at Congress did not seem to hold up as well and it was an '04.  May have just been that one but wasn't impressed.

I started this thread because Sundowner really seems to have a following and though someone may have used this model for a larger horse.  The comparable Exiss has a larger footprint and the Event model has thicker alum. so will be checking out that one next.  Thanks all.

I agree Paints, you do get what you pay for and the Sundowner does last longer then the trailers I have seen. I have a friend that bought a brand new trailer off the lot (no name brand) and he has had nothing but trouble with it. And he paid $38,000 for it so it wasn't cheap. The dealer told him " OH I CAN GET YOUR MONEY BACK ON IT ANYTIME YOU WANT " well he took it up there and left it there for 5 months and not one person looked at it. I have a 97 Sundowner that I bought used and have not had ONE BIT OF TROUBLE with and whenever I go camping i have someone ask me if I would like to sell it, they love it and I didnt pay anywhere near $38,000. I was at an organized ride in Tn and the Sundowner dealer there offered me $31,000 for it and I paid $23,000 for it. So I could of made money on it. As you can tell I love it and still own it though...LOL. If you shop around you can get a Super Deal on a Sundowner, the used ones are nothing to be afraid of.

Oh I forgot to mention that I sold my 90 Sundowner using horsetrailer world and bought my new one the same way. I just kept watching the site until I found exactly what I wanted for the right price. I did have to travel from Indiana to New Jersey to pick it up but for the price difference (I saved $20,000 ) it was well worth the trip. I found one consigned by an individual threw a dealer. WHAT A GREAT SITE !!! THANKS

Hey, I have no problem believing the S-downers hold their value. But how much of that is 'name' and advertising? I mentioned the huge spacing for the beams under the alum. floor, that was scary to me as I have heavy horses. I checked the thickness of Exiss (EVENT, NOT SPORT) models, much thicker with closer spacing. THIS, is what is important, safety of the horse. I agree Exiss is selling a cheaper entry level trailer and therefore am avoiding them- perhaps this Stampede is Sundowner's "Sport" model- don't know, just know it won't work for me and my horsey pals.

I totally agree.  I too paid attention to beam spacing, aluminum thickness etc when trailer shopping 6 years ago.  Those reasons and price are the why I chose an Exiss over some other brands.  I've been very happy with my decision.

Never owned a sundowner. I have an Exiss and am well pleased. Why not just buy the trailer you like at a price you can afford? Both are well made, plenty are on the road. All trailers are going to have some problems, some are easier to live with than others.
