I have been told if you measure from the top of the wither to the point of the should...then go from the point of the should to the knee...the difference should be the amount of growth left.

On a front leg measure from the hairline on the hoof(coronet) to the center of the knee joint.Do this on the front of a front leg.See how many inches it is.

most horses are equal in measurement from these two measures. Take a measurement from the center of the fetlock joint in back of one front leg and run it up to the center of the elbow. Then compare that to the distance between the elbow and the top of the withers. Try it on a few adult horses till you figure it out. I just use a piece of hay twine. Until a horse is equal, they are not done growing. Some say that whatever is left over when you go to compare the measurement from the elbow to the withers is how much they will grow that year.

As far as height goes 4-6 years on average depending on breed and other genetic factors. I know someone who looked at two coming 3yo Quarter horses of about the same height and she bought the one thinking he wouldn't grow as much. She was short and liked short horses. Guess what, the other one didn't grow much and the one she bought grew to just over 16 hands. Go figure. She adapted and loved him anyway.
As far as maturing otherwise, some of the larger breeds aren't fully mature until they are nearly 8 though I would say most between 5 and 6.
I would think a 3 and a half year old Clyde/TB has another growth spurt or two left in her. Sounds like she's in one now.

Yep, depends on the breed. Typically TBs finish when they are 4, but I have a friend's who didn't top out at 16.3 until his 6 year old year. 100% TB. I swear. The thing to remember with the Draft Xs is not only are they going to grow UP, but those horses are going to grow OUT.I've seen some crosses look TB until they are 5 or 6, then they start getting heavy.Wouldn't worry about being rump high unless her parents are. She's likely too young to worry that she'll stick there.

The mother of this 3 year old is pure TB and I bought her as a 4 year old.She grew a good inch or 2 after I bought her and topped out when she was 5,and didn't fill out till she was 6.She was a slow grower as well.Which makes me think the same of her baby.I just wasn't sure since this is her first .

I sold a nice little quarter palomino gelding to my friend, easy going trail horse, last year, and he was 5 then and 15hh, perfect for her. Told her he should be done growing, he turned 6 this june and he grew 1 more inch! 15.1hh, I told her it was that extra layer of fat she put on him in a year!

BTW- there is no evidence that some breeds mature slower than others. I know thats what people have been told but its false. The skeletor system of a QH is pretty much the same as an arabian. What changes isn't the bone growth but the muscular growth.
