I have an F150, extra cab,V8, 4.7 liter with a simple Leer cap. I want to upgrade my horse trailer and I would like to know if a 2500 lb trailer with 2-1100 lb. horses and some camping gear might be to much for my truck.  My hitch is rated for 5000 lbs. Thank you

Your best bet is to check the specs on your truck.  With the 4.7L engine you won't be climbing any hills fast pulling a trailer.

I found a good source of towing and hauling information on Ford's website, they offer a very comprehensive towing guide:

https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/rv_trailer_towing/

I just pulled up a random year (2002) and see that depending on whether you have 4wd and which transmission, your towing capacity could range anywhere from 2000-6900 lbs.  You will need those specs before knowing what your truck is capable of towing.

4.7? I think you mean the 4.6, right? The 4.6 is the smaller of the two V-8s and will have slightly lower tow ratings. You didn’t mention what year the truck is, its tire sizes, rear end ratio, or whether or not it has a tow package. Let me know and you’ll get an informed answer. Either way, with the 4.6, 5000 lbs is pretty much maxing it out. Are you absolutely certain the trailer is really that light?
