For those of you using Tuckers, how do you compensate for the drop rigging.  What I mean is that on my old saddle I used a 33-34 girth.  On my Tucker, I am using a measley 26" girth!!!  I ride a 15HH QH too!  I realize that the drop rigging effects it, but it also drops down below some of my saddle pads.  Don't get me wrong, the saddle is really nice, but do I just need to adjust?  I figure I'll give it this year, and if I just can't adjust, maybe trade it in!  I was just checking to see if anyone had the same problem?

PS< It's a 16.5"  Cheyenne  (plain jane)

TIA

Diane

We have our girth as high as it will go on each side.  We also located some of the black rubber pads that you can find in Kountry Supply (I think that is how they spell it)  Make sure you order one that is the roper size.  This might help with the clearance on the sides.

Thanks for the link.  We get so many magazines in at the house, it is often hard to keep them all straight.

I did a little shopping around and have decided to order a pad that is made to fit the tucker saddles. They have a variety to choose from, and I think it will help out my problem. I have been using a reinsman tacky too pad, and it's big enough to accomidate the dropped rigging.
Thanks
Diane
PS> I shop Country Supply alot too, love that place!!

I'e never had a problem with cinches on my Tucker saddle. It just depends on what horse I use it on. On my mare she is 14.2hh and the typey old quarter, she has a wide roper cinch, 28" and it't on the second hole from the bottom. Then my Two Eyed Jack mare has a medium roper cinch it's all the way to the top and it's 28" also. I've had my Tucker Cheyenne for  12 years, bought it straight from the Tucker co. when u could by it from them. I have roped many calves with it and it's held up well, the only saddle I ride in! I love it!

Thanks! I feel better about my purchase now! My husband has a ranch hand tucker, and has similar problems with the girth being too big. BUT, our QH'S are only 3 and 4 years old. They still have some growing to do. My 3 year old is a doc bar bred boy, so he's more stocky type. My boy came paperless, so were not sure. I think both of them will mature pretty well. Just some adjusting to do. Glad to hear how well the tucker's stand up over time. Your the first person I have heard to have one that long!! I had wanted an ortho-flex, but didn't find an older one I could afford!
thanks again

Hi Diane,

The reason that led me to get a Tucker, was I was having really bad pain in my knees, bad arthritis from barrel racing most my life, and when I went on lesiure rides, or working cattle it was miserable. Used a friends Tucker one weekend and I never hurt! I was so comfortable in it all day long too! I have the original Cheyenne, 15.5 inch seat, wide tree, and had it special made for me, I would love to buy a new ranch hand one, they are nice, but they are pricey, I think mine new 12 years ago was $795.00 and that was including the shipping.....

Geez, I can sure relate to the arthritis problems.  I only 38, but have already had a joint replacement due to the type of arthritis I have.  I tried a cordura (fabtron), and it was great on the knees too, but I just wasn't totally happy with it.  I test rode a tucker one day, and was sold.  I bought mine in November (used) and we custom ordered my husbands in January of this year.  It (Ranch Hand) was 1495.00, and are now 1695.00, so it was an expensive saddle for us.  Mine was 1000.00 used.  I have been very happy so far, and the light weight is nice too.   Guess these horses are worth it:-)

Diane

PS, I ordered a microsuede pad with contour sides tonight.  Hope it is as nice as it looked!

I've never noticed any problems with the Tuckers my wife and I have been riding Tuckers since Steve Tucker was making them out of a little shop in Southhaven MS. 12 15 yrs. but we ride Racking and  Walking Horses. I use the Trooper and my wife rides the Aussie-Trooper that they don't make anymore. They make a great product and stand behind them and they sure keep your knees from hurting let alone your rear.

My saddle has a new dropped rigging and my horse was developing white hairs from the latigo ring (not the cinch ring in my case).  I bought these cushions from Cashel that didn't do the best job: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00097CRY6/103-2061797-7372648?v=glance&n=3375251

And have been using these, which are working great: https://secure15.nexternal.com/slypner/images/WVCIN401256.jpg

There are nice Skito pads, and those made for Bob Marshall saddles have real long sides, but are very expensive.

Thanks for posting that Jean, those look like something that I need! Different girths sometimes rub, so those would be helpful.
