Location: Overland Park, KS
Trailer: Tandem axle bumper pull. Rated for 7,000 lbs.
Current Tires: P225-75R15
Issue: Had a blowout on one tire driving trailer from Kansas City to Ft. Collin, CO.
Decision: Going to replace all P rated tires on trailer with ST225-75R15.
Question: The tire supplier in Ft. Collins has Load D tires which he will give me for the same price as Load C. Load C's would be adequate (rated for 2,000 lbs x 4 tires = 8,000 lb total allowable load). Is there any problems installing D's, even though my trailer won't be carrying that high a load?

No difference that you or your horses would notice, although THEORETICALLY they might be slightly harsher.

The problem I had was that I couldn't get a ST225/75R15 load range C,
so I had to take a load range D,
but the wholesaler only sold them as trailer "spares" already on 6 stud rims,
so I had to get the rim swapped to a 5 stud.

Looking back on it, it was a very minor hassle.

On second thoughts there IS a potential problem that you are at risk of "getting sucked into" (-:

Maximum inflation pressures and maximum loads are molded into the sidewalls, it will be higher on the D rated tires than on the C rated tires. If you follow the wisdom of some on this forum you might be tempted to inflate your tires to that maximum pressure, in which case your trailer WILL give a harsher ride and possibly bounce around more on poor road surfaces, they will also wear more in the center.
