I was wondering if anyone out there has ever tried or if it's even possible to have built-in mangers removed. I have a two horse Sundowner slant load with the built-in mangers and being that the trailer isn't even a full 7 ft wide, it's a bit cramped for my horses. For short trips, it's no problem, but for longer trips I would like for them to be able to stretch out a bit more. I love the trailer in all other ways, but I didn't realize how much space those mangers took up until I started hauling my horses in it. Any advise would be appreciated.

Yes.
Many/most things are possible with a bright blue wrench - and a capable operator.
There is not much oxy-acetylene cutting these days, most shops have plasma cutters that will go through just about anything, neatly.

I haven't looked at a Sundowner to see how they are installed, but Kiefer they are completley bolted in, In 4 Stars they are bolted/welded. Getting them out should be the easy part like Reg says the bright blue wrench will remove em'. Once you have them out you are going to have to make some sort of pads and disable the paddle lock on the doors. Otherwise should be a painfree deal.

I really don't know how much you would gain removing the mangers. Even if you remove the mangers, the dividers will not fit, you will have to buy new dividers, mats, cover the exposed walls with ruber mats.

I am not sure how much more you'd expect your horse to "stretch out" without the mangers. Are you meaning being able to drop their heads a bit? If so, then I can understand since while traveling a long distance its benefical for a horse to lower there heads. Otherwise, they might be more secure when snug- rather than too loose then always having to lean and shift.

I mean no disrespect with this comment. I think that unless you are mechanically inclined, own more tools than a set of screw drivers and 25 piece socket set, and know what is structural in a trailer versus facade that you should stray away from such a project. Even without the mangers all they will be able to do is drop their heads a little. Do yourself a favor and sell it to the next guy and buy yourself a different trailer.
