I am considering a door from L/Q into stock area on my next trailer, it will open into a 4 ft. stud pen, as I prefer a "stock trailer" back over a "horse trailer" model.  Any how I was looking for some pros or cons to having this walk thru door!  I'm kinda torn, I can think of some good and bad things about one!

Thanks

I don't have a walk thru into the horse compartment. I do have a walk thur in my mid tack. I can see pretty only positives. With a walk thru door- you can use the from part of the trailer for extra storage, either tack and clothing, hay and feeds. My friends have WT from LQ to the horse area and like it very much. if your using the front stall for horses and have no desire to use it for other reasons, then I don't know the value of the door.

We added a walk through to our trailer last summer, from the living quarters into the horse compartment. Our trailer is a three horse with the weekend package(no bathroom) so  we use the first stall for storage and a porta potty. Works great we are glad we did it.

My trailer did not have a passage door to horse area when I got it. I had one put in and it the best thing I ever did. I put a cowboy shower in the first stall. You can also come in the back if it is raining/muddy and save all that mess in the camper area.

I got mine at a horse trailer dealership. They will install them for you.

I have a 4 horse trailer and haul 4 horses. I have the walk thru door and love it. I use my first stall for horses, but when I get to my destination, the horses are out and I use the horse area for "living" too. I wouldn't have a trailer without one.

We bought our new trailer at a Horse Expo and it came with a lot of "show specials" that we wouldn't have gotten with a regular purchase. It came with a walk through door and we'll never be without one! It's too convenient to use the first stall as a mud room, cooler storage, hang up wet clothes and coats, kick muddy boots off before going in the LQ and not have to hop around on one foot outside trying to get the other muddy boot off so my wife doesn't yell at me for tracking up her clean floor. Whew! I guess you get the idea that a walk through is a must on our trailer. Happy trails.

The walk-through door and completely insulated trailer were two must-haves when I was looking for a trailer last year.  Can't tell you how many I passed by because they didn't have those two features.

Besides all the positives mentioned above, I really appreciated my inner door one day last year when a sudden deluge of rain made it impossible to see.  I had to pull over and was able to dash inside the LQ ( in my curb side door, another feature I like) and check on the two horses and make a sandwich while waiting out the rain.

Another little thing. I usually put my generator on the back side of the trailer and with the inner door I can step out of the escape door in my jammies and shut off the power at night without having to go all the way around.  The door just makes the whole unit function better.   My 2 cents :-)

flying byez  did you get yours done at Millbrooks?  If so, what did they charge?  I quit using them because they were overcharging folks, and plus charged $85 an hr in labor.  I found a place in Kalamazoo that does better work, guarantee's their work, and far far cheaper!  At millbrooks they don't have a "certified" welder so they can't guarantee their work.

Wow, thank you for all the replys!  I guess I'd better give my dealer a call  back to add an option.  The biggest draw back that I could see is that when I go to finish the dressing area I loose that space for any kind of cabinet or anything, either at floor level or ceiling height.  Maybee the pro's outweigh the con's.  Thanks again all!

Bought the door from Millbrook for $400. They had different styles and prices. We installed the door ourselves, it was a easy installation. What's the name of the place in Kalamazoo? Just for future reference.

Just a thought - I was thinking about building a dinette on the backwall with my LQ that has a walk-through door.  I figured I'd get a fold-down tabletop and attach it to the door.  When I'm not using the walk through, I can just left the tabletop and secure it to the door.  The benches on both sides won't be in the way of the walk through.  When I stop and am pretty settled, I can pull the table down if we're eating supper or something.  Maybe you could use the space that way?

There is a negative if you plan to store things against the bulkhead wall of the "stud box". Those things will probably block the door from opening and you'll have to move them constantly. I opted for no door from my mid tack to the stall area because I use both sides of that wall for storage.
