I own a 2000 GMC 3500 Crew Cab 4 WD Dually 6.0 Lt Diesel with 4.10 rear. Looking at used trailer with curb weight of approx 8900 lbs and GVW of trailer is 19,000, overall length of trailer is 39'6" and is 8' wide - this is a 6 horse head to head with the 3 rear horses behind the trailer axle. Anyone know my towing capacity and if this trailer is to heavy or long? Thank you

Hi and welcome to the Forum.
One of us has their model year and engines mixed up, I thought the 2000 was a 6.5 L, replaced by the D-Max in '01 ? I don't think there was a 6.0 diesel in recent decades from GM.
Anyway, I'm pulling a similar size all aluminum 4-Star (not flimsily built) trailer with an '03 1 ton D-Max without problems. My axles aren't moved forwards, so I can do 3 across in front, but only 2 in the rear, though I have put 1 in the middle a couple of times. Mine is 30ft on the floor, just about 39 overall, you will have less trouble with clipping than I do, though I probably have less trouble with tail dragging in rough fields, as in "meadow parking" at events.
If this is your first venture into pulling relatively heavy gooseneck trailers with a recent GM/Chevv be aware that the rear brake pressure proportioning valve DOES work on these trucks, i.e. you are likely to go through rear brakes a lot faster than front brakes if you tow (or haul) heavily a lot.
PS You're going to have a very long total rig... I'm guessing over 57ft., which is a limit in a few places in PA, NC and TN that I've been through. I have a std cab and I *_THINK_* I'm just a bit under 57 ft.

Thank you for the information, I do have the 6.5 Diesel and have gotten a clarification of the curb weight of the trailer at 6800 lbs - with two 7000 lb axles. When you stated over length in some states (PA is my resident state) do you mean just some roads in PA or the actual entire state? Thanks again for the information.

Sorry, I could/should have been clearer.
Just SOME secondary roads restrict to 57 ft. overall length and 8 ft width.
I remember having seen it in PA, TN and NC - I wonder if it is a general spec that I just havn't noticed elsewhere ?
I've been on some of them in NC and I have to say I wouldn't want anything much bigger on those roads, actually I'd like to go back to some of them with a fast road bike, but thats a whole 'nother topic (-:
