My Wife insists that she is good to buy a 2020 ford ranger with a tow package and pull a steel one or two horse trailer with a 1200lb horse. She’s very new to horses and all. I have had horses my entire life and have pulled multiple trailers. I wouldn’t pull a horse trailer with less than a 2500/250 for safety in the ability to keep the rig on the road and stop it. What do you all suggest and pull with?

Agree, a 250/2500 would be best, but a newish 150/1500 with a good towing package (with trailer brake controller) will suffice for 1-2 horses. The new trucks have much more towing capability than the older ones. You could use a Ranger in an emergency, but it should not be used on a regular basis. I used a smaller truck for a while and it really put a lot of wear and tear on the vehicle. You'll go through brakes like crazy.

Also, plan ahead. If you're like us, before long you'll want a gooseneck with living quarters and then you'll need to upgrade again. Quoting my farrier, "You can never have enough truck."
