Ford Motor Co. is recalling nearly 260,000 vehicles, most of them large pickup trucks, to fix safety defects that include sudden stalling of diesel engines, U.S. federal safety regulators said on Monday. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the stalling problem affected F-Series superduty pickups from the 2004-2005 model years as well as the 2004-2005 Ford Excursion full-size sport utility vehicle and E350 and E450 vans. All 180,104 of those vehicles are equipped with 6.0 liter diesel engines and the recall stems from a potentially faulty fuel injection control module, NHTSA said.
Separately, it said Ford was recalling 78,675 superduty pickups and chassis cab vehicles from the 2005 model year because their fuel line may separate from the main fuel bundle. Fuel line separation can cause engine stalling or leakage, possibly resulting in a fire, NHTSA said. It identified the trucks affected by the recall as F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 superduty pickups and said they were equipped with 5.4 or 6.8 liter gasoline engines. (Source: Reuters Newswire)

Mr.Truck, are you sure it just applies to gas engines? We have an 05 F-350 diesel and are having sluggish problems with it when we haul our 4horse. As much as it hurts me to say this(because I'm the Ford fan in the family) our 2500 Chevy pulls better. It doesn't seem to want to shift and heaven help if you have an incline it just loses momentum. We took it to the dealership and of course they put it on the computer, which said nothing was wrong. Imagine That!!! Have you heard of anything like this??????????? Any help appreciated. Thanks, bits

The first half of the recall is for diesels, the last paragraph is on gas engines. You should be getting a notice. And your dealer will now have more info, so call them back and ask them about the recall. It is for 04-05 Power Strokes.

I just called Ford and found out that my F-250 V-10 is one of the trucks to be recalled. I was planning a trip from Kansas City to Salt Lake City starting Saturday and Ford will not have the part in until next week. I wasn't taking the horses, just the truck which has about 2700 miles on it. Mr. Truck, would it be wise not to take this vehicle due to the potential problem and possible fire? Thanks in advance for the information.

That's a hard call, since I'm not going with. Very few recalls will tell you to stop driving the vehicle. You have free roadside assistance and all that from Ford. The odds are in your favor that you won't have a problem with an empty truck. But your tolerance to risk is the deciding factor. I'm a test dummy and dare devil so my choices may vary from anybody elses. But ask the service advisor that you talked about the recall with, and have a witness. Good luck.

I have a 2003 with the 6.0 and i read that they may also be included in the recall. When i called my local Ford dealer they said they knew nothing of a recall on any of the 6.0 trucks.I bought the truck used so i do not recieve any of the recall letters.I am thinking of adding a K&N AIR FILTER to help with the pulling power.Has anyone had any luck with it???

I have no specific experience to offer, but
There is at least some belief on the various diesel forums that adding less restrictive air filters is a BAD IDEA !
It figures, if your filters aren't letting enough air in then they're probably clogging. If they're clogging then allowing the stuff in that clogs them (bigger particles) can't be good.

I'm partial to aFe, they started with K&N and went on their one about 4 years ago. They have several models for Ford diesels, I like the Pro-GUARD 7 which is a washable 7 layer filter, (no one else has more than 4 layers of surgical gauze) Pro-Guard 7 has the same filtration count as the factory paper, 99.5 % check out, http://mrtruck.net/afe.htm near the bottom is the details of Pro-GUARD 7. We are in the process of reviewing the Duramax aFe cold air intake systems. On my Hemi truck website, http://www.hemitruckclub.com/ we have install articles on aFe and they are discussed and analyzed many times in the forum there in it's own category.
