It’s that time of the year again! The International Roadcheck enforcement blitz is almost upon us and the CVSA has announced that – in addition to other standard safety checks – this year they will be focusing on tire safety.
Roadcheck is a massive undertaking when 10,000 CVSA-certified inspectors make it their mission to inspect an average of nearly 17 trucks and buses in the United States, Mexico, and Canada every minute for 72 hours.
According to the CVSA website, every year Roadcheck “places special emphasis” on a specific category of violations. In its 29th year, that category is tire safety. Inspectors will be paying special attention to the following:
Tread depth
Tire pressure
Cuts or bulges in sidewalls
Items lodged in between tires
Overall tire condition
That’s not to say that inspectors will be turning a blind eye to any other issues however. According to the CVSA, inspectors will also be conducting a thorough examination of both the driver and the vehicle.
This year Roadcheck will run from June 7th through June 9th and is a partnership between the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (US), Transport Canada (Canada), and the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (Mexico).
