My Wife and I are currently window shopping for retirement living quarters trailers. We currently own a Hart LQ.

One thing we cant figure out is why do RV fifth wheel trailers have such nice walk up bedroom type goosenecks and LQ horse trailers do not?

Does anyone make a LQ trailer with a stand up bedroom either in the fifth wheel or somewhere else in the trailer?

As far as my searching has led has been a couple of the trailer manufacturers offering 2 bedroom models....we would really prefer an optimization of space....

Opinions, suggestions?

Thanks,

Josh

JCook, Do a search in the HTW trailer sales section. Take a look at Silverlite. They and Silverado are the only manufacturers to my knowledge that have a standard model raised up roof in the bunk area of the LQ. You will see several of their bigger models with full steps up to the bunk area. Other than these two manufacturers, I think that the best that a person can do is a 7.6 trailer height and a dropped nose.  This gives a person just about an additional foot of height in the bunk area.  Silverlite and Silverado are both manufactured in Oregon and are both are high quality custom and standard manufacurers.  Their LQ's are very functional, but do not have the bling of an Outlaw.  Silverado will make you anything that you want.  Their designers are awesome and Silverado has made many custom trailers for various custom applications.  I don't own one, but they were on my short list along with Elite, Platinum and 4 Star and I ended up with an Elite because it came up at the right time and the right price.  All I needed was to be able to sit up in the bunk, and the 7.6 dropped nose did it OK.

Hokey Smokes Retento! Gotta sell your first born, and maybe your second to buy one of those. Forget Texas.  Everything isn't bigger there! Go to Joplin. Joplin's even got an elevator and closed circuit TV in their livestock auction house!  What will the horse trailer world come up with next!

I though the Dream coach seemed like a good buy at half the price especially compared to the 1st 2

I'm not a fan of all the leather and fancy Pergo floors.....I love the featherlite lite living packages. So much more functional for us and 3 dogs......

Not to mention a 3 horse with 14' LQ and a slide out was jut qouted to me at $55k.....that additional $50k buys a lot of diesel or almost pays cash for a Toter.....say the F750 style

Check Arena Trailer Sales website; they have a very nice raised roof Cimmaron LQ.  I saw it at the Midwest Horse Fair; as our display was right next to theirs.  Cimmaron is a very well built trailer.

Also, I know of a customer that had a raised roof Featherlite.  You might check with F/L and see if they would build you one.

Silverlite recently announced that they were closing their doors, so you might not want one of those.

Your best bet is having one built just the way you like it.

A couple stopped overnight at our barn once...they had the coolest set-up I have ever seen.   They actually bought a toy hauler but converted the "toy" part to a two horse slant.  He said they shopped for a LQ horse trailer for a long time but couldn't find one they really liked.   The toy haulers om the other hand, had a huge sleeping area in the GN and they were less expensive than horse trailers.  He did the work himself and spent about 2k on the materials.  I have some pics of it on my phone. If they are clear enough to post I will put them up.

I've also seen a "toy hauler" that had been remodeled to haul 2 mules. The man had added a portable straight load panels that he could put in the back with a skid loader and bolt it down. Full ramp on the back. So, he could take out the partitions if he wanted to haul his 4 wheelers. Those mules had quite the climb up the ramp. That hauler was huge!Mary

So after getting all your opinions and suggestions I've done a little more research.

What about one of those new Class C motorhome toyhauler RV's and convert it to haul horses? (Fourwinds Funmover)

I would think that the sidewalls would be much stronger in the class C segment than the travel trailers?

Opinions?

How did the toy hauler stand up with the horses in the back? I saw Stable Boy also but have heard that they fall apart in a few years. Not meant to haul live cargo.
