We're looking at getting an Exiss 20' GN stock trailer, but there is NO divider between the horse area and the gooseneck. We'd ideally like a separate dressing room there that we can insulate, AC, and make a small weekender space.

http://www.exiss.com/gooseneck_livestock-trailer/modelstk16/

Has anyone had success doing this (or something like it) before? Is it as simple as ordering a panel from Exiss and having it welded in creating that dedicated 'dressing room' space?

I know there are GN stock trailers that have dedicated dressing rooms, but the one we're looking at is such a good price, it might be worth it to undergo the conversion.

An alternative to an expensive aluminum bulkhead, would be the installation of a plywood bulkhead supported by studs. It's construction would provide a facing that easily facilitates the affixing of cabinetry, shelving etc. If you purchase plywood sanded on both sides, it can be painted, finished or covered with materials commonly used in any LQ construction. The total cost would be a fraction of an Aluminum's, and very much effected within the realm of a DIYer.

Just remember any structural modification to your trailer...especially most DIY efforts reduce the value of the trailer in the long run...

Thanks, all!

Interesting note about the DIY deprecation... I'm not surprised, but I'm having a very difficult time finding something on the market like this (stock, 2+1 with a dedicated dressing room/weekender) in a REASONABLE price range. I don't need a custom conversion, here... Everything with weekender quarters (even DIY AC, added cabinets, etc, etc...) seems to only be in slant-loads. I'm looking high and low for a stock trailer as we travel with two horses and a carriage.

look at used trailers, there are lots of them out there that should meet your ideas at a good price, not knocking exiss but there are better ones out there.

Thanks, Kooner. We've looked high and low. Online, here, craigslist, other local sites, dealers etc... The inventory for our particular specifications is very, very low. I don't think I'm ready to buy anything sight unseen, so unfortunately trucking something halfway across the country to New Hampshire isn't an option.
